Newbie from florida...

Hi All, well i currently own a 2005 K2500 Burb as our only vehicle (daily driver for the mrs and our family tow vehicle for our travel trailer), but have been looking at older chevys in the hope of restoring one for a while... As my wife and i can't agree on a year for a vette (68 vs 63 accordingly), i'm taking my pursuit to an older burb or long bed pickup....

Honestly, I have no idea if i'm ready for this. Grew up with an old 72 Dodge Dart, 71 Volvo 144, an AMC Rebel station wagon, and some old 68 Datsuns in the driveway... Unfortunately probably didn't learn as much from my step father on these as i could/should have.... Meanwhile, my brother's been taking on a 69 camaro for last several years.

I want to get into the game and figure with the exception of body work even a novice like me ought to be able to do it. Anyway, i continue searching for a rust-free 72 pickup or such on various sites. I think the truck is probably more justifiable than another 8-9 seet burb at this point, but we'll see...

Already enjoying reading posts on the gas tank swaps among others. If i can eventually have a truck that is along the lines of this one, boy i'd be proud to give that to one of my sons one day:

First off welcome to the Board. This place is great, the advice I get here has saved me hundreds of dollars so far and I have yet to do any major work to the vehicle.

Second, that one on EBAY looks it would require little to no work @ all.

Ya i want to do some work - that's the problem with the ebay one and others like it...

It's pretty but i couldnt' say "i did this". I really want to make this a learning experience too - plus i don't want to fork out that much either (at least not initially - over time would be ok)

Full foot - thx alot... however, assuming this is the one in your sig, i'm really looking for fleetside longbed, not stepside... 77's a bit late - that 70-72 range is what i'm really shooting for (ya i'm picky).

But i really appreciate the offer.

Welcome from DeLand, I am glad to see someone within a few miles of me. It will only be for a short while as I am moving to Russelleville Tn. Good luck on the search. I have a buddy that is going to be taking a lwb to the rod run. He lives in Lake Helen if you want to see it b-4 the rod run. Let me know I will hook you up with his name and number.

Hey Shenandoah75, I spotted a truck on the way to work this morning. I did not get a real good look, appears to be a 71-72. LWB, light blue in color in Deland on 17-92 north of the Mitsubishi Dealer on the west side of the road. Check it out, may be what you are looking for.

Re: Newbie from florida...

Well - the one in Deland had a lot more rust through than i think i'm comfortable with, rockers / doors had quite a few holes - one continuus long run on the passenger side... Relaly nice older fellow selling it came out to meet me, but he wants $6000 firm which seems really steep for the rust. He's so nice i didn't want to say anything negative to him or be appear confrontational though...

less than 50K original miles on it... Might be good for someone not totally scared of rust and body work (C20, full floater rear axle rated at 5500lbs), 3 speed on the column.

Talked with Full Foot's friend tonight and that's looking very promising - hoping to take a trip down there this week and look. She said there are some rust indications but at this point, it's bubbling, no rust through, so i feel much better.

thx again to all of you!

Well don't do it unless it's on your way somewhere close...

I was all set to go see it today and at the last minute, we decided to go house shopping instead. Luckily house wasn't what we wanted, so maybe truck will be :) must cheaper and no mortgage!
