BB casting number - where are they??
 

About BB casting numbers:

1.) where are they

2.) how do you read them to tell if the block is numbers matching to the VIN of the truck it is in?

block castings are on the back of the block behind the distributer. same as a smallblock

There is also a stamped # at the front passenger deck surface, just in front of the cyl head. That's the one with the model and hp rating codes.

Date code is on the side of the block I believe.

clay6810 has right answer. I found info for my 402 BB on the front passenger deck ledge on the block just in front of the cylinder head
