Body Mount Replacement Questions and Exhaust systems
I need to replace my body mounts on my 72 Blazer. Can anyone give me any pointers or pictures of the mounts being changed. I do have access to a lift and various floor jacks. Also, I am going to need to replace a couple of the bolts that are bent. Does anyone know if new nuts and bolts come with the Prothane body mount sets, or if there is a different brand that has nuts and bolts? If not, does anyone know what size the bolts are and where I can order the bolts? I live in Japan and can't run down to the hardware store and pick up SAE bolts. I also need a complete exhaust system. Does anyone know of a place that can make one so that it can go through the U.S. mail. I have access to welding equipment, so installing will not be a problem--I just need to get it here.--Thanks everyone this is a great board.

Re: Body Mount Replacement Questions and Exhaust systems
As fas as changing out the body mounts, I've heard/found that doing one side at a time is the way to go.
An american truck project in Japan, that's cool. :metal: Welcome to the board, enjoy the ride. |

Not trying to be nosy, but are you stationed in Japan by any chance?

Re: Body Mount Replacement Questions and Exhaust systems
Replacing the body mounts was time consuming.
I did mine about a month ago and there are 12 bolts you will need. I thought mine would be good since I was able to loosen the nuts so I got a bushing kit without the bolts. Turned out I replaced all the bolts anyway. My advice for someone not living close to a bolt supply house is to order the kit with bolts. 8 of the 12 bolts were 3/8" carriage bolts. From what I remember 2 were 10" long, 2 were 4-1/2" long and the rest were 5-1/2" long. The bolts by the rad and in front of the front seats are larger and may not be easy for you to find. I jacked off my rocker boxes, bed floor in the back, and support under the rad in the front. Check out the magizine article I posted in FAQ about this as it may be helpful. Good luck |

Don't mean to hijack the thread ..just a quick question..when installing a bodylift,do I use with new body mounts or in place of the body mounts?

Re: Body Mount Replacement Questions and Exhaust systems
Pretty straight forward process, just time consuming. My prothane kit from Summit didn't come with bolts, I got those at home depot. All the existing bolts were tack welded to the bed/floorpan so I had to grind those off for removal. Be sure to grease new polyurathane body mounts so squeeking doesn't become an issue. Try to have your jacking point as close to a mount as possible and don't jack any further than needed to remove/replace. I spread the jacking load out by using pieces of 2 X 4". Loosen all the body mounts on each side but just remove/replace one at a time and leave loose. After all mounts have been replaced then tighten. I used lock washers and tightened until bottom piece started to deflect. The two toughest ones for me were the two in the very back by the tailgate. The two at the radiator support requires at least the loosening of the radiator to move it out of the way or in my case I took it out completely. Have fun!

Re: Body Mount Replacement Questions and Exhaust systems
did you get the blazer in japan?
|
Re: Body Mount Replacement Questions and Exhaust systems
No, I didn't get it in Japan. I have owned the truck for about twelve years. My wife is a Dept of Defense elementary school teacher (2nd Grade). We were allowed to ship one vehicle on our orders. Sometimes I wonder about my sanity, or insanity, but we shipped the Blazer over here after it had sit in my parents backyard for six years. I'll try to post some pictures soon as it is a very clean, dependable truck. Thanks for all the advice.
