New exhaust w/6" drop pics

I have seen requests for pictures and info for this several times so I thought I would put up a couple pictures. The exhaust is 2.25" aluminumized tubing. I used the ECE trailing arm crossmember (thought I took a pic of the pipe running through it but apparently not). The pipe goes over the trans crossmember and through the trailing arm crossmember. I also had a balance tube installed. I asked about a X pipe but he just didn't think he could make it happen and remain above the height of the framerails. Here are a couple shots from the side just to show that nothing is below the framerails.

Here's the balance tube.

I had him stay outside of the rails after the axle in case I ever want to go back and add a rear fuel tank.

The driver's side was tight! We had to take the bolt out of the track bar and turn it around (face the head towards the front of the truck) in order to make room for the pipe.

The passenger side wasn't near as bad.

And of course the tips!

Wow, I like that. I didn't think you could have a 6" drop without cutting the frame out for the axle, let alone squezzing in the exhaust through there. Cool!

No everything is kosher under there. The axle will hit the frame before it gets to the exhaust. The pipe was "massaged" somewhat next to the track bar for clearance.

Looks Great! Are you using headers and if so what brand and p/n?

It still has the stock manifolds.

see ten- what headers are you using? or stock exhaust manifolds. Would you strongly recomend an ece trailing-arm cross member for a 4/6 drop THANKS. JOHN

Stock manifolds my friend. ECE recomends the Xmember with anything more than 5" drop. I have seen many people on this board running big drops without it. If you run the ECE Xmember you will have to run a one piece driveshaft.

Some guys go outside the frame just before the rear hump in the frame and then run the pipe up and over the axle in the wheel tub. It gives great clearance and less severe bends in the pipe, yours looks nice, not baggin' on you just adding another option at there.

thanks for taking the time to get pictures, I do appreciate it! good tip on the one piece driveshaft, I didn't realize that. Since I just had my two piece balanced with all new u joints and the carrier bearing replaced I guess i'll be staying with the stock trailing arm crossmember for a while. oh well, thanks again. Great install. Very clean. I'm more and more impressed with ECE part all the time.

Looks great see ten!
I notice you didn't c-notch the frame and I don't see any bumpstops.
Just wondering if you've had any probs with bottoming out?

Thanks for the compliment. No there is not a notch and yes I removed the bumpstops. ECE claimed I would have 3" between the frame and the axle tube with this drop. It seems to me that I am closer to 2.5" of clearance. I don't know if my spray-in bedliner adds enough weight for the .5" of difference or not. I have not had any problems with it bottoming out while driving. A friend and I stood on the tailgate and bounced on it to try to see if it would hit. Well after about the third bounce it did. I think if I had enough weight in the back while driving it would hit under the right(wrong) conditions. I may end up installing a C-notch later so I can run a bumpstop or a compression bumpstop. I don't know if I would be better off installing a rear airbag setup to be able to haul loads or take my chances with a notch.

Fantastic. That is some smooth work. I'd bag it myself.

Looks great see ten! Crawl up under there and get me a pic of that crossmember. I'd like to see that part of it, I'm debating on putting that crossmember on my burb. Thanks for the pics.

Re: New exhaust w/6" drop pics

Here are a couple pictures of the truck for those who asked. I will try to get my buddy to bring his camera by tonight so I can get a picture of the ECE crossmember. The man who ran the tubing for me has about 30+ years of experience. He has actually stopped doing this kind of work due to health reasons. I called him to see if he could refer me to someone and he told me he had access to a shop to do jobs for his "old customers". If you didn't notice there is just one piece of tubing from the mufflers to the tips(nothing pieced together). He came off the manifolds with 2" pipe and when he got it parallel to the frame he went up to 2.25". He took his time on this job and was happy with how it turned out. It cost me all of $220 which I feel was a bargain. (These photos were made before I had the exhaust ran which is why you don't see the tips.)

Dude! I went out there and laid down on the carport and stuck my arm under the truck for these pictures. I know they are kinda poor quality but I didn't want to drag out the jack in the rain.

Nice Ride!
I made a 2 1/2" system out the rear with ECE 6" drop.
I had to go under the trans crossmember, I kept it tight it only shows about
half the pipe under the frame from the side.
I made the Whole system using flowmaster universal tail pipe kits, and H pipe.
Flowmaster 50 series deltaflow stainless. check it out.
This is the first time posting pictures.....
