JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
In case you want the best NP205 transfer case available:
JB Conversions LoMax 205 Low range is 3 to 1 in a new NP205 style case with stouter gears! Super low range with no driveshaft changes needed. 32-spline versions are in stock and shipping but 10-spline input gears are in production. Figure 8 vs. round bolt pattern issues are also addressed. We all know that an NP205 is tough, but look at the size of those LoMax gears in comparison to stock NP205 gears! I'm computer illiterate, so would someone please post a comparison of the gear sizes. Or any pic you please. TIA. :) Start dreaming and saving. :D |
Re: JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
They sound cool, but I'm not sure if I can justify them :( .Looks like I'll run a 203/205 doubler ,or at least that's the current plan.

The size of the gears is why you can't use the stock case.

Re: JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
Why not both? A 205/205 gives 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1 (2:1 x 2:1). With that gearset in the 205 a doubler gives you 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 and 6:1 .. after all, it's not MY money

That's what I would do if I was in the market for a doubler...but I'm not. I offroaded just fine with a SM465 and Rockwell T221 (well, til it exploded) and didn't ever want to go lower. Unless I move to Colorado or Arizona, and have rocks to crawl on, lol. |
Re: JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
You are correct WMS does have a 3:1 for the 203.Just imagine the possibilities. 3:1 203 and 3:1 205.That would be cool.WMS also offers a 203/203/205 setup. Which if all were setup with 3:1's it would be insane. Just a though.

Re: JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
I`m too poor.The best I can do is a NV4500/NP241 and 4.56 axles.Which I have laying around,just need to start building that one.Well,first I have to swap a 208 into my`90 Blazer so I can rob the r/h 241.
|
Re: JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
Why? Just save some time and leave the 241 under the Blazer and just use the 208 behind the 4500. The difference in low range (to me) wouldn't be enough to justify a swap.

Kind of interesting to think about the difference between stacking a 2:1 and 3:1 gearset in either order. For instance: Does a 3:1 rangebox put more stress on a stock 205? Would you be better with a 2:1 rangebox and a stronger 3:1 gearset in the 205? or if you'd rather not twin-stick your 205, would you like 2:1 or 3:1 2wd low from the rangebox? All pretty academic to me since I moved and decided to restore my '72, but interesting to think about nonetheless .... |

I guess I need to go watch the crawlers someday. I very, very seldom use low range in my stock 205 let alone go lower yet! My theory is "build a bigger engine"! Hahaha |
Besides having greater strength for handling the binding that comes from full lockers front and rear, the beauty of the LoMax NP205 gear set is the crawl ratio. With an SM465:
1st 6.32 x 3:1 xfer x 4.11 R&P = 77.9 final crawl ratio. 78 to 1 makes ample gearing "room" for over 35" tires. Compare with stock crawl ratio: 6.32 x 1.96 x 4.11 = 50.1 Less weight, too. Expect less driveshaft breakage & u-joint wear than with doublers since a rear driveshaft behind a LoMax alone is longer and has less severe operating angles than driveshafts behind doublers. Anyway, no one's going to talk me out of getting one. :bling2: |

Anyone call for a price on one?

Re: JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
Now that I've read the whole article about it, it does seem like an excellent product.
I like the dual, (round and figure 8), mounting positions. And the big bearing 32 spline input is nice since 205's with that input arrangement are getting hard to come by. The 3:1 gearset has it place I guess. For you crawler guys it'd be great, (or at least a big improvement over the stock 1.96:1). I think they should've left the PTO plate on there too though. Now for the big question, Price? |
Re: JB Conversions' New LoMax NP205 with 3:1 Low Range
They're $1300 :( . It's too bad they are so high.

Ok, the LoMax is very expensive. I wish they weren't so high, also. Maybe they'll come down a little if volume sales start. Edit: Hehe. Volume sales @ $1300 a pop! I crack myself up. :D :o :bs: |
