I am looking to upgrade my rear drum brakes on my truck to discs. Does anyone know any OEM upgrades so I don't have to break the bank doing it....I would like to keep the parking brake but it is not that big of deal depending on what needs to be done.....thanks for any help you can offer

Didn't IROC's have discs on back? If so, why couldn't you swap one under a truck? just curious.

Not sure about a 6lug set up... any I have heard about are from 5 lug cars.

Well, you have cheap and you have reliable, but the two don't go together. A good, reliable, rear disc setup will not be cheap. I've got a good setup but it's very far from being cheap.

There is a 6 lug set-up for sale on Ebay.

Just as well start thinking about buying a disc/disc master and combination valve. Oh, and if you got the e-brake calipers, you are going to need to buy some new cables to make these work right.

Here is a pic of what I'm running out rear on my 12 bolt

I have rear discs from a 93-97 Camaro in my ride... it all was 100% bolt up, but my rear axle is from a 69 Chevelle.

You do have to think about getting a new proportioning valve as stated above...

Try a 79 Cadillac seville. I was told that the rear disk brakes can easily be
adapted to any 10-12 bolt rear ends?

So....what if you have a 3/4 ton?

I would sure like to hear from someone who has put a rear disc kit on a 3/4 ton, I am in the middle of a brake job on my h-072 and cannot locate any good drums so I am investigating the rear disc option. I was ready to place an order from Blackbirds but the owner of the shop that is doing my brakes is sceptical. He wants me to talk to someone who has done it before he gets himself in the middle of the project. I have heard several guys say they are getting ready to do it but I haven't heard of complete jobs. Blackbirds is telling me no master cylinder/proportioner valve work is required but is that just for off road? Guess I should have ask, I use this truck daily on the street and for my business to pull an equipment trailer so I don't mind spending the money even if I need a disc disc master cylinder but I just want to know up front and not be a test pilot.

i have put a f*rd nine inch w/ disc from a lincoln and the back brakes dont work i need the proportioning valve replaced for disc but the one above is a 50-50 split i dont think i like that shouldnt it be more like 70-30? to be safe! let me know 75stepper if your brake took some getting used to or was there any diffrents other than being better due to disc in generall

Just for a quickie. If you look at my sig you will see my stocker '72 3/4ton with a dana60 rear with disc brakes. all stock brake system. I tow and haul quite a bit and never had issues.It is my daily driver.
I have installed kits on the eaton and 14b ff (similar kit), both customers have not changed any braking system items.
It really becomes the customers choice and what he wants to feel when he hits the pedal.

i know what you'll say.. I work for blackbirds, so I'm biased... I'm not.. There are several places to buy kits. TSM is a good place, he will also state that you don't need to change your proportioning valve or MC. we have been doing kits for almost 6 years of online sales and have become the largest online supplier of complete kits with the most kits available. Before that we just handled word of mouth and local kits and other fabricated items. You don't become big time by selling items with issues or problems.. yes they do come up. Not everything we make can be perfect, but when that happens we work one on one with the customer to get them handled and back on the road...
Again we are just an option. There are several guys out there with cheaper items, non tetsted blue prints and used parts to get you a rear disc system. There are also fellow board members that have done kits for them selfs. Just becareful and do your research.

Heck we even have a review of our 60 kit on the pirates4x4 site.

I am also interested in converting, and I also have a 3/4 ton eaton. I have read that calipers for a 77 & 78 Eldorado will work for the conversion. I saw a complete set of rear calipers for a 79-85 Seville, will these work also? It says they are for a 1" wide disc. I guess you just buy the 8 lug compatible rotor?

I am a new comer to this subject but it sounds to me like a kit is the way to go, all the parts come together and its been tried before. A guy could do a lot of running around picking up parts and then not have a compatable system. I am giving the Blackbirds kit a try and it will be two weeks before I am running it but i will post my results. If you have not already; check out Blackbirds Custom Trucks, they have a system that does not require any mods to your master cylinder.
