20" rims on 79 chevy BS questions

Hey guys, I am getting ready to order a set of rims for the 79. Its gonna be bagged w/ 1.5" c-member drop. I want a set of 20" Panther Juice 5's. I plan on running a 40 series tire.

Just wondering what specs you guys used when getting ur rims/tires without rubbing anything.

I already know I cant use inner fenderwells, and i have to cut my rear wheelwells out. anything else ill need to get rid of in order to run 20's front and back?

It all depends on what you're attempting to do.

Kens truck has 20x8's up front w/5.25bs & 245/40's. The lower arms are trimmed to prevent unwanted scraping & he has the stock size inner fenderwells. On the back, he has 20x9.5's w/either 4.5 or 5" bs (I can't remember 100% which one it was) & 295/40's. The rears required no mods to fit.

These sizes fit w/o issue because Ken isn't trying to plant his framerails. They work for the way the truck is designed. If your plan is to plant the rails, a different bs will possibly be required.

Yea, I am definetly planning on planting the framerails on the ground.

The fronts should still be ok w/the inner wells removed.
I would say you'll need more back spacing & mini-tubs on the rears unless you cut out the inner wall of the bedside for clearance. One suggestion.... keep a close eye that you don't get overly aggressive on the rear bs & wind up w/the front track width visibly wider than the rear (a major no-no in the custom/slammed truck scene IMO).

Im still stuck on the backspacing, its kinda hard to do with a bare frame, and none of the suspension bolted up :P

If it were me, I would wait until I had something to base facts on. It sucks.... but sometimes it pays to be patient.

If that's the concern then decide what size tire you plan to run. Take a look here for a conversion chart that allows you to get the outside diameter of the tire. http://www.4lo.com/ Use a set of beater tires and wheels that are the same height that you plan to run.
I suggest this because it doesn't sound like this project will be done in the next few months. By then you may look at those wheels and have a different opinion of how they look.
