Best Way To Remove Rear Window?
 

What is the best way to take out the rear window and trim without wrecking it? I would like to save the window for sure and possibly the gasket if i can, I should also add that it is a factory slider.

I took mine out with a couple of screw drivers. Start it on the inside close to one of the corners, usually you can start it with your fingers and work a screw driver in to the window frame then move down a few inches and slide the second driver in. Prying outward on it slighty as you go. If your gasket is old use a little wd40 to help it slide better. Also if you start at the top and work across usually you can ease it out without having to go all the way around with the drivers. I've done this several times and it's always worked well for me and was able to save glass and gasket.

Just my opinion, but save yourself some time and aggravation, go to the Truck Shop's website and order a new gasket for $22. Cut that old gasket around the inside as close to the glass as possible with a utility knife. You will only need to do maybe two or three sides, at the most. Then gently push the glass out. That old gasket isn't worth saving. You probably need a new one anyway.

My dad helped me replace a worn out slider with a solid back glass in my old F**d Ranger I had. I think he used a small rope, stuffed between the gasket to help pull it out. Dunno if it applies to these trucks or not.

don't pry it out!! me and my dad did that on my '71 with the orginal gasket, put dents all across the top of the cab. cut the old gasket out, it's a whole lot easier and new rubber is easier to work with the 30+ yr old dry, harder rubber. chris.

I had a glass guy replace a glass with the old original rubber. It was so dried out the guy actually cut himself on the rubber. Then it leaked, so I had to get another one anyway. Cut the rubber and get a new one. Roping in a window does work with our years.

i just poped one out of a junk cab yesterday with a screwdriver and a wood chisel dry in about 5 minutes but is much easier with a little lubracation. i like to use dishsoap rather than wd40. i try not to use wd40 anywhere near anything that may get painted in the next hundred years. i start in a top corner and work torwds center and down one side fror the inside pushing out but have also done it from the outside once when i locked my keys in

I always just cut the rubber took 2 windshilds out and a back window out with a knife

Ya, I tried the screwdriver thing on the 71 once. Had to buy a new windshield too. Good luck!
