Dash Lights Don't Work

I just drove my truck back from the body shop yesterday after having the cab replaced. I rewired the whole truck after I got it put back together. All the lights work (headlights, sidemarks, back-up, blinkers), but the dash lights. They worked before I took everything apart. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad ground contact somewhere.
I had a similar situation that I couldn't figure it out. Later on I cleaned all the contacts on my grounding straps and the lights came back on...

You don't have the dimmer portion of the headlight switch turned all the way off, do you?

Putter, I did try that...not it. Catseye, I tried me messing with the ground right behind the dash besel. I think that might be the problem, because it is primered right now. It may not be making good contact...I'll keep messing with it.

If your inst panel wasn't grounded, your turn signal indiacors and fuel guage would be acting stupid too.
Take a good look for a pinched wire, maybe upon installing the steering column.

Is your headlight switch new or at least "lightly used"? I've had the potentiometers stop working altogether on older dash light dimmers before.

G.M.uses the instrument lights to indicate that the stop lights are not working. Check your fuses for the tail lights.

He already did.

Dan, did you take the horseshoe connector for the steering column apart or something? There's a gray wire that feeds the dash harness there, and that is the power for your dash lights. I had a bad connection on my horseshoe one time and it killed the dash lights. Also, the heater lights tie in right there. Are they working? Good luck, Jeff.

When my dash lights didn't work it was the switch itself that was bad. As yours does, everything else worked including the turn signal lights on the dash, the high beam indicator, just not the instrumentation lighting. All the outside lights worked right also.

Thanks guys. I have not had time to look into it anymore this weekend. I'll let you know once I figure it out (and I will) exactly what it turns out to be.
