Big Block Swaps simplified
Hello all, I have been gone for a while but I did manage to find time to get the 454 shoe horned into the farm truck. After talking with some folks I decided to just do it my way. I sat the 454 on the stock 350 mounts, but it sat a bit too far forward. So then I got to looking at this issues, jacked the motor up and swapped the frame mounts side to side. Slid the mounts towards the front of the slot and drilled the holes for the bottom bolts. It made for tight clearance with my headers but it all fits! I was thinking of making a swap book what do y'all think?

What are you going to run for exhaust manifolds or headers? That's usually the main trouble with using small block stands.

I clearanced the frame stad a tad bit and had to slightly dimple the header tube a wee bit. It all fits great! But however I am unsure if the BB headers are going to work with the drop componets I bought.

Re: Big Block Swaps simplified
;) I'VE PUT SEVERAL BIG BLOCKS IN THESE TRUCKS, & THEY SEEM TO BE MADE FOR THEM (NO SURPRISE....THEY WERE). I HAVE ALWAYS USED THE CORRECT BIG BLOCK MOUNTS & HAVE NEVER HAD TO TRIM OR NOTCH OR DIMPLE ANYTHING. I GUESS YOU COULD SAY THEY FIT BETTER THAN GREAT. ;) JOHN

Re: Big Block Swaps simplified
That is how they had the 454 in my K-20............Only problem was they cut some of the steel away on the plates where the motor mounts bolt to.........When we took the engine out, I wasn't too supprised when I seen that side was all cracked up from lack of structural strength. Luckly I have some extras to replace it.

When working with limited funds and resources you do what you have to. I would have used big block stands if I could have found them. The clearance was miniscule not enough to hinder the performance of the mount, or effect exhaust flow in the header tube. I do know enough not to go hacking on a motor mount. This was a poor mans BB swap.
