For those doing manual to Auto, can someone clarify flexplate bolting please.

The flexplate has recessed area's where it bolts to the torque converter...just so I don't bolt it in backwards I thought I'd ask the dumb question. Maybe this will be helpful for others as well.
In the first picture, should this be the side out (away from the engine) when it is bolted the crank? Or is it the second picture that should be facing you when bolted to the crank? Thanks...this old tile setter needs some help mechanically from time to time! |

In the middle of any flex plate there is a small tapered flange. the taper faces away from the crank shaft which should put your torque converter on the raised side of those recesses.

yep. the recesses "reach out" to meet the torque converter, if that makes sense.

You need new bolts too to bolt the flex plate to the crank shaft. Your manual ones are too long. Ask me how I know.
I was lucky. I had a 350 with no home sitting in the shop when I was bolting my th350 in place of my 3-speed manual. The flex plate was still on the spare engine so I had the right bolts. |

I knew that, but thanks. New bolts from ARP are on the way from Summit. I also needed Metric bolts to bolt up my Dacco torque Converter.
