what's it worth 67 GMC w/351
Came across a 67 GMC the other day, and I was wondering what it might be worth.
Body in OK shape, some surface rust, and 'iffy' rockers and cab corners. 351 V6, Power steering, power brakes, small rear window, factory gauges including tach, 3/4t 2wd with what looked like a dana 60 rear, oh yeah, and a 4 speed w/creeper (sm 420/465 not sure).....was just wondering what this might be worth, its a pretty odd combination of options (who sprung for the PS and not the automatic?). One draw back.....it had a sunroof......and while it has some more rare options, pretty sure that WASN'T one of them. |
Re: what's it worth 67 GMC w/351
SM 420= Reverse is over to driver & down, last used in 67 unless a PO installed it in a newer truck. SM 465= Reverse is over to Pass side & down. I have read some postings by members that the 351 motors & heads a keepers for those who like the big V-6s. If you can check behind the seat back, you might find a build sheet there. GMC mostly (all most always) came with the Dana 60 rears. As much as I love the little window cabs it shounds like a parts truck, or maybe a project truck in need of a new cab. Value? $800 & up depending on you location & desire to own such a beast. Does it run & stop?

That truck should have a New Process 435 4 speed. Sounds a lot like my truck!

Re: what's it worth 67 GMC w/351
it was a camper cruiser.
Parts truck sounds too tough of a term, the rockers and cab corners didn't look that bad, the sunroof was installed "properly" but just looked really out of place. I agree with the small window, I probably would have just swapped it down the road to remove the sunroof, avoid patching the rockers and cab corners (if necessary) and to get a big back window. I just wanted to make sure that even with the PB, PS, and the 351 I wasn't walking away from some kind of an unheard of creature.....he wanted $3,000 for it......it was a little high for my taste, especially for having a motor and transmission combo most people tend to shy away from (I liked it, and I know some people on here like it....but he doesn't have to know that!) |

Oh yea, I forgot that one is out there, but I pulled this from the Novack site: The 435 is an excellent, heavy-duty truck transmission designed and used in ½, 3/4 and 1+ ton trucks. It is a well-built transmission and remains easy to locate and generally inexpensive to buy and maintain. The strength, relatively short size and the gearing of the transmission make it a good choice for a variety of situations. The NP435 was made by New Process Gear from 1964 to 1993. They are found primarily in Ford trucks from 1966 to 1992 and Dodge trucks from 1964 to 1993. They also had limited distribution in GM & Chevrolet trucks from 1968-1972. The shifting pattern for the 435 is in the standard "H" pattern with reverse gear being to the right side, and down. He did say this was a 67, so if it is stock and we assume that Novack is correct it should be a SM420. 3K is a bit steep. I ran accross a 67 GMC Custom Camper in a wrecking yard a while back. It had 305/Th400/PB/PS/3.54 Limited slip. I yanked the rear & PB setup for my 70 GMC shortie. |

Re: what's it worth 67 GMC w/351
Have to say the Novack site is a bit off on this one. G.M.C. favored the NP 435 with the V-6 on 4X2 models from 1965 up. 4X4 V-6's used the Muncie, however. I think the NP 435 might not have been offered in Chevrolet pickups before 1968, though. I just finished rebuilding the NP 435 in my '67.
