Front driveshaft removal?
How do I get this thing out?? I took off the front bolts were it connects to the axle. What do I need to do to remove it from the transfer case end?? Are there clips or do I just pry it off?
It's a 71 4X4 with a 4 speed, if that matters. THANKS in advance. |
I don't know if it changed between '69 and '71, but on my '69 with a Timken t-case, there are bolts. It's not a U bolt, but a curvy piece of metal with two bolts on each side.
I haven't had to crawl up under the 'burb yet, so I'm not sure how the 205 t-cases are. |
I believe that the 205 has a flange on the t-case end. There are 4 bolts that mates the DS flange to the T-case flange.

my 71 (SM465/NP205) has 4 bolts that hodl the driveshaft to the t-case, easiest way i found was to take out the floor hump and go down from that angle, there harder then heck to reach from the bottem IMO

Yes the crossmember makes it very hard to get to those bolts from the bottom. It is possible to do it from the bottom, but it will take a long time because of limited wrench access.
|
Grab a 1/2" open end wrench (or was it a 7/16" at that end? I can't remember. Been too long), pack a small lunch, and bring a pillow, 'cuz you'll be under there a while removing the bolts that hold that end of the shaft to the T-case!
