Cab stripping ideas?? D/FW guys chime in..
 

Hi all. I am getting ready to get this cab from BobVilla(great guy by the way) and was wondering what anyone thought might be the best way to strip this down. I am thinking that sandblasting might be the way to go because of the surface rust. I am alos looking for suggestions of where to take it in the D/FW area. I am in Denton.

I`d dump stripper on it ,then blast what needs it.

I"ve had some people tell me that sand blasting these old bodies isn't the greatest idea because the heat can start warping the body. Get some high quality paint stripper, some rubber gloves, and a well ventilated area and you should be able to do it yourself.

It all depends on what medium your using.

Or like my sandblaster is a pressure washer with a special tip that sucks up the sand and blasts it out. This works really good and shouldn't ever warp a body panel.

All that,and go easy on it.Blasting media doesn`t warp,heat warps.Blasting makes friction/heat.So,just go lightly.Keep the nozzle moving around a larger area and pause,don`t rush it.I`ve been doing some stripping w/stripper lately just to get a truck stabilized until I start-in on the restoration.It`s been sitting outside and had surface rust start at the moulding holes and chips/scratches.I removed all mouldings and pour stripper on,scuff it off,wet sand,then oxide primer.This will all get stripped again at resto time,but I got a look at the clean bare metal and other than the pitted areas,it`s very smooth and straight.The primer can stay,but will need feathering once I blast the pitted areas and do rockers and outer door bottom replacement.

There is a place in the dallas area that dips auto parts and even whole bodies. I believe it is called metal rehab technology. I will do a search no it and see if it comes up. then edit with link.

I have used them for a trunk and hood for my 67 fastback. Liked their service and fast turn around. If you use them let us knwo what they quoted you for the dip.
