electric fans question

I want to put electric fans on my truck. My question is, how do you wire the fans using a thermo switch? Thanks for the help.

Re: electric fans question

I'd just use a toggle switch. keep it simple and you always know if it is working or not.

And don't forget that relay.

A severe novice here, but I was wondering Why the relay was so important?

Re: electric fans question

The fans draw alot of current and a relay is capable of handling this current, the thermal switch is not. Use the thermal switch to control the windings of the relay and the relay contacts to switch the fan/fans on and off. A toggle switch to override the thermal switch would be a good idea. Monitor your water temp closely with the elec fans. I've heard horror stories of guys burning up their expensive engines when/if the fans stop working due to a bad thermal switch, relay etc...

I found if you wire the fan to a toggle switch instead of a relay,if you go to shut your motor down,it will keep runnin until the fan quits turnin.Strange,eh?

Thanks for posting that link. It should be a must read for anyone considering installing an electric fan set-up.
It pretty much debunks the horsepower gains advertised by Black Max and others.
