Remeber the "Brighter Bezel Lights-But not with LED's" thread? Now I have LED's
3 Attachment(s)
Searching for brighter instrument bezel lights several months ago, I thought I was on to something with the 921 lights to replace the 194's (I actually had 168's) in the bezel. I had tried some single bulb LED's but they weren't bright enough. The 921's were very bright but Paulf and byrd convinced me I would most likley burn out my circuit board. So I decided to get some 5 bulb LED's. This is the old thread.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=199921 Here are some comparison pics with the new LED's. The fist one has the LED's on the left and the old 168's on the right. (168 bulbs are supposed to be 50% brighter than 194's) The next photo is whith the 5 bulb LED's on both sides. I don't think it brightened up all that much but there seems to be less glare and by using white bulbs it changed the color to more of a blue which I like. Overall I like it better than what was in it. |

Just curious, but did you try painted the back of the panel white too?

I am always dimming my 05 to barely lit, why would you want bright lights shining in your eyes at night? If it is stone black I can drive for hours in the dark, but bright dash lights and my eyes are ready for sleepy!? Looks cool, but I like dim, just my dime (inflation!)

I guess I want my lights to match the intensity of my Autometer Tach and I want them to be about the same as my other vehicles. |

I live up on the rez and rarely drive at night, have even considered getting out of the hotrod game since theres no one to race at the stoplight.....wait there's no d@mn stoplights up here either!? I have a K5 and I might buy the bottom half of GQ to built another nicer 4X4. I understand trying to match intensity, just remember to wire all together through the dimmer switch as it will be nice to chill them out once they are equal. Yeah, .02 cents cost a dime and if it goes the way of gas, we won't be able to afford to speak!!

So would using the "175" bulbs work with no problems? I can't recall seeing a 175 in the store, but never really looked for that # either.

I'm not sure ont the 175, no experience with them but you would be increasing the overall current draw over 2 times what it is now, not to mention the extra heat and strain on your already old wiring harness and PCB.Not sure what they cost either, but my guess would be at least $1.50/bulb. The LED bulbs when purchased off the site listed on ebay will cost less than $15 shipped, (you only need 4 bulbs for the duty lighting)and use less power too!!.I get all my bulbs from www.superbrightleds.com The best part of LED bulbs is you will most likley NEVER have to replace them as their life span is around 10000 hrs, and the incandescent bulbs like the 194,168,921 will only last on average 1500 hrs. Now I'm sure there will be nay sayers, but I will swear by the LED's,no heat, better lighting, last forever, how can you go wrong? Just my .02 Randy |

I checked with Schuck's, Auto Zone and Baxter in this area. Even tho the Philips and Sylvania catalogs list the 175; they are not able to order them. NAPA outlets in this area do cary the #175 lamp at $1.99 each. Specs on this lamp:- current draw- .58 amp; light output 5 candlepower; rated average life 1000 hours.
