battery hold down/nhra tech
 

will the stock battery hold down pass tech at the drag strip for the street legal drags? do i need to modify or change it, or will it pass just fine?


Jim (or anyone else who races at the Redding Drag Strip), what are you doing for a battery hold down? how strict on tech are they? i've checked the nhra rules and this is my only concern

I would move the battery to the rear frame rail under the bed! Most tracks don't tech that hard but the oe hold down is weak!!!!!!!!

i might do that eventually but for now it's staying where it is. i have the little optima adapter (like that really makes much of a difference) on there.

i dont want to drive an hour to the track and not pass tech.

call the track with your expected ET and MPH and tell them you have a stock hold down... unless you have a fast truck, you'll probably be OK.

i'm not all that concerned about it. I wanted to know if anyone had any issues a their track.
what was GM thinking? i think this part of the design process was done on friday or a monday (with a case of the mondays)

Mine passes tech , and it's the stock set up . No problems . I have , however seen how much damage a battery can do if it gets loose , not pretty.

IUf your stock hold down is in good shape, it is better off than many hold downs. (assumijng the correct size battery is installed)
Slide one side of the battery base under a lip that won't move, then clamp down the other side of the base with a 3/8 inch bolt.
When my first truck got totalled, (front passenger side direct hit) the battery stayed in the tray. She was going an estimated 60 MPH when she hit me.

Wrap a ratchet strap around it and the tray, to the rad. support. My Blazer passed that way once.
