I think you would have to section the roof to make up for the lost front to back dimension you cut out of it, at either the top or bottom, or you will end up laying the windshield back a quite a steep angle. You could probably section it right in front of the raised area in the back. Cut that first, leave the back intact. Then cut the front down to desired height, the move rear down to match, then close the gap opened up on the top, possibly from a donor roof, then do the same thing with the side doors, then have glass custom cut etc. I think that is how I would do it.

Oh and you may want to go with the big window in the back to save on metal work and increase visability.

If you have a small window please keep it. (IMO) It will look better as a small window....

Re: 64-66 Chop Top?

I was trying to find some progress pics of other's chop work. I've chopped mine and basically cut it into quarters, w/a donor roof to make up the difference from front to back. I believe I'll need a filler piece for the middle section. The chop ended up being about 2.25", I wanted to keep it kinda subtle. I got the back 2 sections tacked on, but I'm worried about joining them and keeping them aligned, because they don't quite touch. Any suggestions??

Brain with the BADPNL the 66 panel with the 6' chop has talked me thru it Ill ask him again or tell him to stop by and shed some light but he sand blasted his to cut it , he has the specifics I have em written down at the shop , but it took a long ass time like 8 hours of slowly working back and forth

Re: 64-66 Chop Top?

Ya, I used the donor roof for the extra length front to back, but as for side to side, I couldn't use the rear roof pieces because it was a small window. So that forces me to use a filler piece.....the thing that sucks is the gap is only about 1/2", but I don't want to tweak the pillars in to make up the difference. It sure does look good w/a chop though.....who would've thought cutting would be so much fun!!

By the way, thanks for all the info and help guys....this place rocks

I like the 4" chop a little better than 6" on these trucks. But that is jsut my opinion.

Has anyone ever used a WaterJet with abrasive to cut a windshield? It would be tough to get the cutting head to follow the curve on the windshield, but might work pretty well on the long flats.

Just a thought, was wondering if it had been considered.

Re: 64-66 Chop Top?

You supposed to be able to take out 3 inches without cutting the top into 4 pieces. According to IFcustoms.com And if you look at the pics of I think Lemondrop his truck is chopped and the roof does not look sectioned. But does anyone have any pics or links on chopping a 65? Thanks:new:
