Late model beds on our trucks...
 

I've seen the stepside and the SWB fleetside conversions (88-?) But have never seen a LWB fleetside bed on our old trucks. Has this ever been done? Or, has someone done it and it looked like $hiot lol.

I was thinking it wouldnt look that good because even though the body lines match, with that much metal showing you would really notice how the curves are different.

Any info on this?

There was one on e-bay recently...didn't save the pic though.
It looked pretty bad IMO. Even ignoring the whole wheel opening issue, it just didn't line up very well.

i could live with it on my pickup, but would way rather have the right kind. i dont mind narrowboxes from the newer ones, but then it has to be a short one. i still have one of my boxes for sale by the way :) . no, this one i dont think is gonna get sold, im down to 125 as the price for some poeple that stop and look. good luck, and if you do it make sure and get pics. good luck, Ben

I am no big stepside fan anyhow but i thought I would ask. With the 88 up bed conversion has anyone actually modified the wheel well openings to match our original trucks. I have seen it go the other way( truck to match newer box, looked like crap). I see these late model boxes but the wheel wells don't match and I personally think it looks dumb, although if the wheelwells on the new box were opened up to how the originals would look( rounded with the lip) that would look cool. I mean the whole bedside is glass on those new beds, someone by now must have done it.

I've been considering putting the 89-98 stepside bed on my '67 C-10. The body lines seem to match up nicely. Is there a lot of modification necessary to make this happen?

How about 99+ beds, anyone put these on a 67-72 pickup yet?

I saw my first 88-98 short fleet bed on a '70 this week and I agree: while the body lines match up pretty well, the contour is all wrong. My two cents. :)

And the fleet side was even worse.
This just looks liek a truck slapped together and painted IMO. The bottom front of the bed sticks out too far, and the wheel wells are so unalike it looks terible.
Again though...just one man's opinion.

Can someone photoshop the rear wheel openings to match the front so we can see what it looks like?

ive seen a lwb 88-98 bed on a 68 once, and the top of the bed totally did not match up.. lines match up, not the contours, the top sticks out farther if i remember correctly (i saw this about 3 years ago)

Some guys at fsc.com did some quick editing for me. Here is what the new beds look like with the wheel opening rounded.

That truck was featured on PHR-TV a couple months ago. If I remember correctly, it has a 427 small block that sounded absolutely incredible when he got on it.

The red one isn't a late model bed, just the fenders.

Wonder how hard it would be to adapt our wheel wells to a late model ? Is the late beds steel or fiberglass ? I have always liked the look, the first one I saw was in 89 or 90. If the change could be done with a patch panel or cut from a bed I might consider it this winter.:bowtie: :flag: :bowtie:

The late model bed is plastic of sorts, but I know it could be done without a lot of work.

All the late model 88+ sportside bedsides are fiberglass. I still am kinda interested to know though, I mean i can't be the only that thought of modifying the wheel well( I mentioned it first but others must have thought the same) and in the 14 years those trucks have been on the road you think someone by now would have matched the wheelwells. It really wouldn't be all that hard, use a original fender as a template, cut the hole the right size and work in the lip so the body line around the fender is correct. It can't be any harder than body dropping or modifying any other body in any way. In 14 years somebody out there must have thought, gee that looks crappy, lets make the wheelwells match, shouldn't they.

i thought i would hate teh look of it too, BUT then i saw one up close, a 70 chevy with a new bed, burgandy, nicely done, and i loved it, still isnt as good as a 67-72 stepside bed, but if your bed has gone to crap you could definately find one of those cheaper, oh, wait, in never saw a 67-72 that i didnt like, so dont listen to me

I cant say i aproove of the mop@r hood scoops on the 68 dually
