Re: how hard is it to switch cabs?
I don't know if there's any differences between the years, but my 70 was a piece of cake, but I removed the front clip which made it easier. It's a good chance to replace the cab and radiator core mounts.

Re: how hard is it to switch cabs?
I have a 65; changed the cab to a 66. fit right up. The GMC and Chevy dashes are different if my memory is correct. Only thing; you need to keep the original serial number from the old cab & put on the cab you are installing on the frame. Some state motor vehicle departments get very touchy about this. Good luck-----

Re: how hard is it to switch cabs?
Now Days Older Cars And Trucks The Dmv Know Most Of The Time The Frame Is Bent Some Time During Its Life You Can Do 2 Things One Gring Off The Old Seril Nb# Offand Restamp It On The Frame Or Cut The Old Plate Off And Cut Yours Off And Reweld It To The Frame I Like The First One Better And How To Do It Make Friends With A Guy That Has A Car Lift The Ones With The Arms It Make Life So Much Easyer

Re: how hard is it to switch cabs?
Isn't the 64-66 the same with a round guage panel?
I know 60-63 GMC have a single hump dash and C-10 have double hump. They can be changed, I'm putting a Double Hump in my '64 now. Looks sweet, but I still need to work the ends. |
Re: how hard is it to switch cabs?
The GMC dashes '60-'66 are the same, with 1 hump, just the guage clusters were different. ;) Chevy guage cluster will not work in a GMC dash. Any '63-'66 truck cabs are interchangable (1/2 ton) the 3/4 ton rear cab mounts use a different rubber mount.
The '63-'66 GMC frames have leaf spring rear end setups, and chevy's had trailing arms '60-'66. The good thing about having the leaf spring setup in the rear on the GMC's, you can mount just about any rearend right up, and be done. David |
