Hei
What is the advantage of going from stock distributor sytem to HEI? TF
|
You don't have to mess with no points for one.:)
|
More dependable, better starting and better running through the RPM rage from a better, more dependable spark.
Also never dealing with the stupid points again in your life. |
hmm, well on mine, my old points distributor just plain old sucked. i like my HEI , all i can say is when you put it in you will notice a huge difference, and then you dont have to worry about adjusting the dwell or replacing your points or anything, and you can get those big high power coils hehe

#1 reason is that points/gap lose spark at 4500 drastically. I had points/gap on my truck and did a top speed run and the revs stopped at 4500rpm cause my spark got too weak to push it further. (got it to the P in MPH though ;) ) You will not regret going to HEI.

If it is a rebuilt unit, you'll be ready to go when it is installed. If you buy a used one, be aware that there are a couple of components that are replaceable, when bad. The module and the capacitor that is attached to it, can go bad and your engine will die and not start until replaced. If and when you replace the module, be sure you use the correct heat sink compound that will be in the box with the module.
Other than that, you'll love the lack of maintenance required, compared to points-type. You'll have to install new plug wires....for a '76 and up V-8. |
