Question about dip stick tube in engine block
I have a new chrome dipstick set. The tube into the block seems to just push into the block hole. Before I damage the stock one, removing it. Does it just pull out of the hole in the block, maybe by using some vise grips?
I tryed wiggling the stock one on the weekend , and it seemed to be firmly in place. I don't want to twist and pull until I know that it is o.k. to do so. Also , does the new one just press in, and seal o.k. with no silicone? |
theres a trick to pull one out, and i forgot how its done now, hmmmm
have learned too much new lately and forgotten some old.... well, one way is to get a bolt or piece of rod that will slip into inside of top of the tube and get rags around the tube and use vise grips and try that way,, or something similar, when you renistall then you need to use long screwdriver or punch on the lip at the base of the tube down there to drive the tube down, if its kinda not real tight fitting then use some RTV black on it, good luck |
It should just pop out (assuming mine were all meant to), I wouldn't bother with any silicone unless it keeps slipping out or moving around.

I have twisted them out with pliers. They are supposed to be a bit snug and should require a little force to get them out.

:bowtie: YEP ... I JUST LATCH ONTO IT NEAR THE BLOCK WITH VICEGRIPS, TURN BACK & FORTH & PULL UP. I LIKE TO PUT A LITTLE SILICON AROUND THE NEW ONE JUST BELOW THE BULGE, DROP A 3/8" BOLT INTO THE TOP END, & TAP IT INTO PLACE IN THE HOLE UNTIL IT SEATS.

I have used a 1/2" wrench to seat the new tube also. Slide it over the tube and tap on the wrench with a hammer until it is seated.
As far as removal. I have just wiggled it and it will slide out as you pull. |
yep, i agree with da-burb.....wiggle the old one out, use pliers if nescessary, and put a wrench over the tube, rest it on the lip and smack the wrench with a hammer.
