Fuel cell behind seat
 

I am thinking about putting a RCI Aluminum fuel cell behind the seat of my 71' stepside. I has a built in sender and with some minor pipe bending I can use the stock fuel neck. Anyone ever consider this?? It measues 30" LONG X 7" WIDE X 17" HIGH. I measured and I think it will fit. Any ideas?? I was told with a fuel cell you wont get the fumes like the stock tank.

the only draw back i can think of is either youll have to have the seat back straight up and down or scoot the bottom forward and lose leg room, but i do love the idea of it and hope it works for you, and i dont see why it wouldnt fit, but then i dont know the measurements of the stock tank, but good luck with it

I agree with the space issue, depending on the configuration, your seat may be at 90 degrees - not too comfortable.

Anyone with a stock tank that smells fumes has something to fix. A properly working OEM setup should have NO fumes inside the cab.

I don't see much to gain by going with a fuel cell inside the cab, unless the cell weighs less than the stock unit and you are looking to shave some weight :)

I think there is some misunderstanding...a stock tank Measures 59 3/8 inches x 7 1/4 inches x 16 3/4 inches....so this is the same size....I made a mock tank up and I can have the stock bench seat back....I'll send picks when I'm done.....As for stock tanks not giving off fumes I have been in several trucks and in the summerime most give off some fumes---thats why people are taking the tanks out from behind the seats and putting them in the frame.

I see, so the space won't be an issue :D

I never had fumes in my '67 before I tore it down. A properly functioning OEM setup should have no fumes inside the cab.

Personally, I moved my tank to gain a little legroom and to remove the big old fill tube from the side of the cab.

I understand that...I wish when I had the truck painted I would have done my homework and moved the tank...but now I am hoping this will work out...I wanted it out from behind the seat so I could mount some subs...but oh well....thanks for the comments

But on a stock 71-72 with the EEC tank it actually has a vent on the passenger side that runs up into the back of the cab, so how could you NOT smell the fumes???:confused:
