Electric fuel pump ?

I just installed procomp red electric fuel pump on my truck the pump works great but i keep making a buzzing noise. Does a electric fuel pump suppose to sound like all the time? Do i maybe need to install a regulator with it. It says it doesn't call for one on most models.

Most elec pumps make a humming/buzzing sound....some more than others. Adding a regulator will not help the noise issue.

I hear Holly elec pumps are about that loud too. If you want elec, you either have to spend some good money for a quality pump, or live with the noise I guess. I dont know too much about them.

Question, why did you abandon your mechanical setup?

I almost did on my truck, but decided to stick with a mechanical unit. I figure there are guys running 9's, 10's in the quarter mile with 10.5 inch tires and mechanical pumps...there is no reason for me to...especially since I will only be in the 12's.

Remove the pump and mount it to a rubber plate, kind of like a muffler hanger.

What you're hearing isn't so much the pump but the vibrations through the truck. Isolate the pump from the truck and the noise will go away.

One thing, though. If there's currently only one wire going to the pump you're going to have to fabricate a grounding strap for it.

Excellent suggestion, never thought of that.

They still will make noise, every elec pump car I have heard has a noisy pump...but like I said, some more than others.

it should of had the plate over the hole were the pump goes. Or did they remove it intirely.
