BB in 4x4 header
I have a BB in my 71.
What would be a header with a good chance of fitting? Im going to go through autozone for easy returns if they dont fit thanks |
i don't know about the other members here with bb's in 4x4's but on my passenger side header, 2 of the tubes that go into the collector had to be "massaged" to clear the front driveshaft. not sure what kind of headers they are though so it may not be like that for all sets. good luck.

Hey Ryan, just don't buy cheap headers. You'll be happy you spent a few more bucks.
I'm running Hooker headers however, your 71 will have better fitting headers than my 67. Almost all header manufacturers should make a set for your truck. I had to cut about 4" from the length at the collector on the passenger header for mine to fit. You should haven't have that problem. Good luck and keep us posted on what you go with........ Rob |
thanks for the replys.
ya ill buy a header with a thick flange and something that will last. Do they make a header for the big block swap? or do u just get it for a 2wd truck or what? thanks |
They do make headers for a big block in a 4x4 from 69-87 trucks. Should be a fairly standard part # from most major header manufacturers. Hooker, Hedman, etc.

Did you see my reply, in the other thread (Header Advice)??

Also, I had to make up some pretty tight bends, to clear my trans crossmember. I used Hooker mandrel bends, 180 degrees, cut in the middle of the bends, reversed and welded. Further, my clutch linkage is mostly custom fabbed, so I don't know how well the stock clutch linkage would work. Hedman says the stock BBC pieces will clear. I didn't have them, so I can't vouch for this... The Hedmans are cheap ($99), but seem to fit and work pretty well, IMO... have fun -M |
Thanks for all the info.
Now all i need to see is what i can afford. I will try to get the highest quality though thanks ryan |
We sell the dynomax headers for bb 4x4 trucks and have never had a complaint on fit or quality, our hooker and hedman headers need a little dimpling to fit 4x4.
