does anyone know if you can take the carrier and pinion and ring gear from a 67 closed knuckle and put it in a 74 front end? They are both dana 44 housing. with the 74 being an open knuckle? The old one has 456 gears that i want to use.

Yes, I took the carrier w/ ring and pinion out of my 69 closed knuckle dana 44 and put it in a 72 dana 44 open knuckle. The housings are the same. You will need to use the 74 inner & outer axles though.

thanks eichorts, I want to keep my closed knuckle front end, but Im having problems finding spindles for it. so if i go to a newer frontend, then i can have power brakes and power steering.
