Clutch pedal help
 

Hello everyone. I just bought a 1972 1/2 ton 4x4 with a factory 4 speed. My question is why is the clutch pedal higher than the brake pedal. I'm not talking 1/8 of an inch i'm talking 4 inches.

My intitial thought is that someone must have bent it to make it more comfortable to reach or something.

No it's not bent it's the same a the brake pedal. Theres a little rubber stopper pad mounted on a black plate. The pedal stops when it hits that. The brake pedal stops 2" before that.

Just to clarify. Do you mean higher as in - closer to you, or closer to the dash board?

My 72 C20 is a 4 gear and the clutch pedal has always been that way and my dad bought the truck new.

I think you need more travel for the clutch than you do the brake.

Maybe someone installed a power brake booster and you lose some of the travel if the rod isnt adjusted/modified correctly.

Yes it's closer to me. It hitting the stop on the metal plate.

I agree - I just did the swap in last week and now my break pedal is stopping about 2" short of the bumper - I have the new rod adjusted out all the way but it's not quite as long as it needs to be.

The brake pedal on PB always hangs much lower-closer to the floor because of the short travel on PB.
It should not be adjusted up. We had a guy in here last week that installed PB, adjusted the rod out to the end and broke it off in a panic hard stop!

PICKMUP, that is what I was told too. I always accept the advice of those who are more knowledgable than me.

I should clarify what I said too - I adjusted it out as far as I thought was reasonable but made sure there was plenty of threads still making contact so just that sort of thing doesn't happen!

Could one not make a longer rod to get the pedal back up?

someone posted on here a while back on drilling a new hole higher up on the brake pedal bar, but ...........
I dont know if ya wanna do that.
On mine, I got a coupler nut and put it between the old rod end and new booster and did gain about 1 1/2" up in travel. Now i need a brake light switch since I broke it Off!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I fixed it. I took a bolt and some epoxy. I used the epoxy to install the rubber stop on the head then I installed it in the place where the rubber stopper should go and adjusted the pedal with the bolt. Now the pedal stops even with the brake pedal. A clutch pedal adjustment was in order and a test drive.
