Whats the deal with humps?

I have a 70 c10 that I converted from 4 on the floor to a 700r4, now I have a huge gaping hole in the floor where the stick used to go. I am not sure if it is considered a hi hump or a low hump. What I would like to do is get a hump out of an automatic truck and put it into mine, but all the automatics I look at the hump is not a bolt in peice like mine is, it seems the hump is an integral part of the cab. I did have a hump cut out of a truck that was headed to the crusher but I am really not sure how I would go about installing it. I am worried that a stock low hump carpet kit wont fit properly if I don't get the height just right.

Stick trucks and BB trucks are high hump, only 2wd auto's are low. I would just make a filler for the shifter hole on your hump and order a high hump carpet kit.

big block/automatic trucks,
4X4,
4 speed
(gmc only) 305 V6 w/TH400 in a 1/2 ton
all these get high hump

Here's a past post of mine showing the differences of a low hump and a high hump.

HMMMM. I am 99.9% sure that I have a low hump that is boled into my truck, but the truck was originally a stick shift. The hole is more near the firewall on the curved part of the hump than the seat. I don't understand. I wanted to find a low hump bolt in that I could replace this one with. I'll take pics tomorrow.

Re: Whats the deal with humps?

For a low hump bolt in you will need to cut out the section from a low hump floor, drill the holes and bolt it in. All cabs started out as low humps and they cut out the hump for the above mentioned modles. All low humps are from the factory part of the cab floor not bolted in.

high hump is pretty easy to identify it is just that (high) from the floor pan height to the top on the hump it rises about 5 1/2"-6 " a low hump i belive is only around 3"-3 1/2"
