DIY Bedliner, any pics?
 

I'm going to do the DIY bedliner. Could those that have done this post pics and state what product they used, with pros and cons? Thanks in advance.

haven't done this before but talked with a friend that has, and he said he uses herculiner..he also sprayed it in using a siphon sandblaster gun that he got at the parts store he said it was like $9.00 and when your done just throw it away.
hes going to be doing it again on a s-10 shortly . i'll try to get some pics

Board member CENTSLESS did a great job spraying his bed liner!:metal: . I've used the roll on Bondo brand Truck Gaurd and liked it. I recently had my ZR2 sprayed at a shop and love it!:cool:

I run a spray-in shop. You cannot get the same results from a 100 dollar kit that is comparable to what my 15,000 dollar Graco machine lays down. This is an area where you get what you pay for, IMHO.

Very true. But, sometimes you just don't need anything more than a DIY kit.

I did the whole interior of my Land Cruiser in the cheapest stuff I could find - Duplicolor. It was like $40 for a gallon of liner and a loop-knap roller to lay it down with some texture. The best part of this stuff is that they also sell it in rattle cans for $7. The rattle cans are great for touch-ups and for getting a little extra in places that the roller can't get to.

I would not use it to do the bed of a truck that gets used. It's fairly thin (something I wanted for fitment since it's the interior), so it's relatively brittle and will chip off if I drop something sharp onto it. It stands up really well to wear, except right below my right heel, but that only wore when my brake master puked and softened the liner. From what I've seen, it's similar to herculiner but cheaper.

Just for clarity - I would not use one of these kits in my truck bed since it actually has to haul stuff.

yah, if you actually going to use the bed of the pickup for "work" you probably should pony up the dough for the real thing. but if your just want the "look" (like i do) then the whole idea of using a grav feed sand blaster setup sounds pretty cool. plus you can say you did it yourself.:me:

I agree with you, 100%. For over 20 years I molded urethane foam and sprayed polyurethane and polyurea coatings. I also formulated many different urethane materials and worked with many suppliers building custom high pressure dispensing equipment. There is no substitute for the type of material you apply, as far as durability and quality of appearance goes. What I'm looking for is a cheap, short term way to dress up an ugly bed. If I had the extra dollars, I would have it professionally done, but sadly, I must go the extreme low buck route at this time.

Still looking for pics of any DIY liner applications.

no pics, but you can get a liner gun at most paint supply places for $30. They lay it on a LOT better than peablaster gun..... been there done that.

I used a product called hippo liner and got the paint to mix in with it so it matched my truck. Cost around $140 if I remember correctly for everything I needed and I sprayed it in. Still have the gun. This is what it looked like

Pros- Cheap and easy to do, and looked good
Cons- Scratched easy and when scractched it was a lighter blue. Showed dirt easy and was hard to keep clean, I did have a bed cover and a hole in the bed after I bagged it.

Oh, I got all this from Car Color and they rent out the gun or you can just keep it like I did.

I just did mine with the Raptor kit (flea bay). I have pics, but their too dark so it won't do any good to post them. It needs another coat for thickness. But the texture and durability seems to be good so far. It comes with a gun in the kit, and is a two part kit. Fill, shake, and shoot. Do a lot of taping first as that stuff will stick to anything it touches.

My boss put some of the duplicolor stuff in his bed (1 part kit), and it is peeling off big-time. May be a lack of prep work, I dunno. He says he did everything like he was supposed to. But he is known to get in a hurry sometimes.

I agree that the result would be a lot better had I taken it to a shop. But mine will work for me, especially after I get the second coat sprayed in. And I've only spent $100 so far.
