Autometer electric guages

I am looking at an Autometer electric guage set for my 56. I want to use the stock fuel tank behind the seat. Does anyone know if the electric fuel sending unit will fit inside my stock tank without any mods? Thanks in advance.

I think the sender is different and wont just drop in. Why not pick up a new one for the tank and get the correct gauge to work with the sender. My autometer set came with the universal one. I bought the proper GM gauge and sold the universal one with sender on ebay to recoup some money.

If your buying the set specifically set up for your truck...It'll be right. I bought the 5 gauge set from Brothers (Autometer) and it was correct. As long as the fuel gauge is a 0-30ohm unit you wont have any problems.

I had put in a 80's Blazer tank in mine and I had to change out the fuel gauge from a 0-30 ohm to a 0-90 ohm unit. Hope this helps!

I checked with a local distributor and they told me that the fuel sender is 240-33 ohms...does this sound correct?

That could be right...If your using the original tank. I'd call Brothers www.brotherstrucks.com and tell them what you have. I believe the 55-59 trucks all had 0-30 ohm original senders but I could be wrong!;)

You can get the gauges thru summit or jegs for the stock 0-30ohm sender, the 240-33 is for f!@d. That's what I did.

If you can get to the sender float you can take an ohm meter to it and test the ohms then you will know for sure. Ed ke6bnl
