73-87 Crossmember Swap ????s
So I know a few threads have talked about the 73-87 swap. And it seems like it is pretty simple....But i have a few questions that maybe you guys could help me out with!! :)
I have a 1960 with the torsion bars and am thinking about changing to the 73-87 crossmember. Do the 73-87's have 6 lug 2wd front ends?? All i've seen is the 5 lug setup. I already have my 6 lug rims that i want for my truck, or would i need to get new rotors with the 6 lug setup? How does the power steering addition to the 60-62 work out? Is it pretty much run like it would be on the 73-87 crossmember. Thanks in advance |
Re: 73-87 Crossmember Swap ????s
There aren't any 73-87 6 lug 2wd front ends. They all had 5 lug. I think CPP has some 6 lug rotors, though.
I think the power steering would be the same. There are a couple links on here about converting to the 73-up box. Tony has even had some spacers made. I would guess that you would use all of the 73-up steering linkage, and mount the box and idler arm to your existing frame. |
Re: 73-87 Crossmember Swap ????s
For my 60 I am going to go with spindles. Now for the power steering I am using a Classic Performance Products (CPP) pn 6062psk kit it is made for the 60-62 frames wich are diffrent then the 63-66 frames. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: 73-87 Crossmember Swap ????s
Alrighty, this may be a dumb question, but if i were to get a front crossmember out of a 4x4 73-87, all i would have to do to have a lower stance would be switching the spring and shock setup right? Again forgive my ignorance here. thx for your help.

Well the 4X4's are a leaf spring front end...don't think there are spring pockets there.

4x4s are solid axle up front, leaf springs.
