Power windows stopped working, ideas?
The power windows are stuck (down of course) in my '83 and I cant figure out why. Power locks still work and all the fuses are good, any ideas what I might be able to do to get them working? I'm going to pull the panel and run a quick jumper to see if the motor works and at least get them rolled up for now, thanks for any tips

Re: Power windows stopped working, ideas?
Both of them? Mine stopped working one time on the driver's side only. I hit the door panel (out of anger) and it started working again. That was a cheap fix! Sounds like you might have a loose wire on one of the switches...

its either:
a.) loose wire b.) dead motor either way are easy fixes... |
Re: Power windows stopped working, ideas?
Correct me if I am wrong, but don't the windows run thru a junction block (of some sort), up under the dash? Perhaps that is bad (especially if BOTH windows quit working)? Look under the dash, possibly near the center somewhere...I remember 75 stepside telling me about this a while back...

Hit the door or slam it hard, happens in my camaro, i guess a loose connection

Re: Power windows stopped working, ideas?
So I ran a jumper from from an 18v drill battery to the motor while the switch was connected and it shorts out. I disconnect the switch and hook up the wire and the motor rolls up/down fine. Did the same on the passenger side and it worked great whether the switch was plugged in or not? I had another switch laying around and tried it and same thing. Maybe both switches are bad?
