Mines under the bed. I used Kustom tank's 16 gal tank.

Re: Need help with gas tank options..

Where did you get the inner wheel wells? I have a 56 SWB stepside I am early into and was thinking about increasing the width of the rear wheels a little for a bit of that hot rod look. I am also wrestling with where to put fuel tank but was hoping for something a little larger that 16 gallons.

Your truck looks great - what we can see of it.

i just ordered a 16 gal fuel cell from summit tonight . i really wanted to go w/ a stainless tank but couldnt convince myself to part w/ 5 bill's. my truck is mini tubbed too , i used the inner fenders off of an late 70's early 80's fleetside and trimmed them to about 6" wide

Re: Need help with gas tank options..

Fantastic look! I have never heard them called mini tubs but am going to pursue that more.

I have beeen toying with the idea of a combination marine grade polished aluminum tool box/fuel tank where a guy can get upwards of 30 or more gallons. There is a possibilty that I can mount the battery in the tool box above the fuel tank also. The cost however is through the roof (ca. $1000.00) but it solves a lot of problems with battery, large fuel tank and tool box. It also will weight a bit but I do dislike driving around in an empty truck. I live in rural western Canada where everything is quit far apart - bigger fuel tank is better and i want to make a cruiser.

The fuel cells with sending unit look pretty straight forward and I will really have to weight my options carefully.

Has anyone got a tank under the bed with a side filler? Reason being is here in oregon we cannot pump our own gas we has gas jockey that do it for us yes stupid I know but once this thing gets paint I dont want some jockey screwin up the paint..

I'm in Oregon also, and we can pump our own for Classic cars, and
motorcycles if we want. I put a 1970 Nova tank under the back, and
made a gas door under the tail gate. I also made the tail gate shorter
to make room for the gas door.

I have a question for you. did you trim that back crossmember and/or move it back some? It looks like you have fresh bolts holding the crossmember in which is why I am asking if you slid it back some.

I was going to order a summit one like that today. I see a few of them in there though and did not measure this morning before heading to work. Oh well, I guess I can order it tonight after I measure the area so I know which one to order.

lotus , im putting a 16 gal summit fuel cell w/sender in my 55(i'd be done today but i caught a wicked cold) i had to move the rear crossmember back 2" so the tank will fit . its kind of a pain in the ass to get the bottom rivets out because they also hold on the rear leaf spring hanger too (if youe still using leafs)

sorry to hear about the cold. that sucks.

And I am hoping to avoid having to move my rear crossmember back a couple inches. I do not mind trimming the top out some to get it to drop in but I do not want to have to move it.

quick question...what size back tires are those on your truck?

entourageguy 09-08-2007 08:19 PM

Re: Need help with gas tank options..

Hey
The rear tires are 235/70 15 on 15x7 ralley rims. ! have 2.5" spacers right now to clear the box. I'm planing to do a small tub this winter so calipers clear the box in the wheel wells.

Re: Need help with gas tank options..

cool. I have 225x75 15 in the back. With the 8.8 rear I do not think my bed will fit on. My adapters are 1" and convert me over to a chevy pattern. I have some torque thrust wheels I am going to use. I think I am going to try and fit 275x60 15 in the back.

back to the fuel tank. I ordered one from summit tonight. I am going to trim up the back support to get the tank to fit rather then move it since it is attached to the rear leaf area too. That sounds like next weekends project if I can get the rear of the frame notched this week.

Is the rear on your frame notched or not?
