Factory Engine Oil Cooler

I purchased an 85 1/2 ton for parts and it has a factory engine oil cooler. It's the first time that I came across a factory oil cooler. There's an aluminum cooler in front of the rad, flexible lines loop under the rad support and connect to hard lines that mount to an adapter between the filter and block.

Are they very common? I was considering removing it and keeping it, do you think it would be worth taking it off?

That sounds a lot more useful than the oil "heater" they put on Corvettes and f-bodies. On my cars they run engine coolant into that adapter between the filter and block, effectively heating your oil up to coolant temps.

I have seen the heavier trucks with oil coolers, and alot of people put aftermarket tranny coolers aswell.......but mostly 1 tons, and 3/4 tons. This was part of the factory towing package I think...

Thanks

I was parting an '85 K5 that had been rolled over.
We were cutting through the core support with a sawzall and didn't realize what that cooler was until we hit the oil lines?!?

Interesting, that sure seems like something I'd like to have in my truck - were oil coolers standard on 1-ton trucks, or optional?
