Spindle Bearings

87 Suburban, 10 bolt Front End

I'm putting my front end back together with new tie rod ends, sway bar bushings and so on. I've got my inner and outer wheel bearings all cleaned up and ready to be packed. Now that I'm looking at the manual I see there are spindle bearings as well. Are these roller bearings that are supposed to spin free? Mine look OK but they don't move. Do you usually replace these spindle bearings? Thanks.

I ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION. I FOUND ANOTHER SET OF SPINDLES AND THOSE ROLLER BEARING ARE FREE. I'LL JUST CLEAN THOSE UP AND USE THEM INSTEAD.

I replaced mine... very easy once you have the right tool (blind puller from autozone). Cheap to replace too... They should spin though...

NAPA sells an entire kit that will have the thrust washer, bearing, seals and all.... I can find the part number if needed...

Is that tool one of the Autozone loaners? Also, I could use the part number. Thanks.

Re: Spindle Bearings

Yep, blind puller with slide hammer at autozone was the best way to get it out, safely and easily too...

Napa part BK1 - $17.99 http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...+-+Front+Wheel

or the bearing only - brg b2110 - $11.49 http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...+-+Front+Wheel

the only way to get the plastic thrust washer was with the kit, good luck..

Thanks for the information. I'll pick up the kit and get the loaner.

All done. I couldn't find one of those blind pullers and the Autozone pilot bearing puller was trashed. Anyhow, I ended up using a slide hammer and it got them out. Now I've got shiny new bearings! Thanks for the part numbers too.

Re: Spindle Bearings

no problem... I didn't learn about the kit until I bought all the parts, then I had to take it all back...
