What did you get done 09/09
WOW! I finally had a weekend that I did some "real" truck stuff. I have been scrounging parts to convert my 82 Blazer front clip to a 73-77 style front end. After many unsuccessful attempts I scrounged up what was "supposed"ust free core support. It wasn't!
I had talked with forum member Tony (texassquarebodies) about a hood, and he said he thought he had a good core support as well. I loaded what I had on a small trailer and headed to Rockwall this weekend. After dropping what I had at Stoked Out and spending a few hours catching up on the latest with my buddy Keith (n2billet) we took off to Tony's little place in the country. Tony met us at the gate of his shop with a huge Texas smile on his face. He shook our hand and right away we started talking trucks. When your standing in the yard of Tony's shop it's impossible to not talk about trucks. He has a HUGE collection of 73-87 trucks of all sizes shapes and colors. We made our way around the immediate area going from one building to the next. Every building we stopped at had a huge stash of parts in it. Most are 73-87, but he has tons of other era cars and truck parts too. After s trip to the fridge for ice cold Gatoraid, we watched will Tony lifted a 80 C/K Blazer on the back of his rollback wrecker. We inspected to core support and it was mint. Half an hour later it was on the ground and on the back of my trailer. Before I was done I had scored a super clean 73-77 hood, a mint core support, a 73-74 grill, and a spare fender. After that we hopped in the single wheel crewcab he had just bought for dirt cheap, and took a tour of the yard. Tony's family has 90 acres there in Wills Point and it has a LOT of cars and trucks. There is another chapter to this story that I will have to add along with pics when I get home. Until then, what did you get done? |
Re: What did you get done 09/09
Changed out the carb gasket but my motor still isn't running right. Going to try a different distributor and if that doesn't clear it up, an Edelbrock 1406 is going on since I don't have the time or the money to mess with the Q-Jet at the moment.

http://www.ocbaud.com/pics/truck/truck2.jpg http://www.ocbaud.com/pics/truck/trannycooler.jpg my interior is completely done now. started up the engine. that went, ok.... new oil pan gasket is leaking. i need to pull the new long tubes and tighten the bolts. the new carb needs tuned bad. took a few minutes to get it to idle on its own. the tranny cooler is plumbed and installed. it is nice :) my neighbors down the street were outside and started staring at me when the truck was started. i guess open headers on a decent engine are kinda loud for a peaceful neighborhood? |
Re: What did you get done 09/09

Re: What did you get done 09/09
I did nothing to the truck, as usual.
My wife and I spent most of the weekend moving an 8X10 tin storage shed to a new location in the yard onto a new treated lumber floor setup. It was a lot of work, but I can have a real storage shed built in the location it left, so I can free up some more room in the garage. There's so much stuff in there that I can't even work on anything right now. My goal is to remove everything from the garage that isn't related to working on cars and trucks. We'll see if I can actually do it. :-) We also got to spend a couple of hours fishing today. We went with a friend and her son. He leaves for bootcamp in the morning, and wanted to do a little fishing before he leaves. It was super hot outside, and we caught our usual nothing. :-) Slonaker EDIT: A friend gave me some truck parts this weekend. He gave me some of the old Silverado trim off his '87 that he no longer owns. He says more is coming my way as soon as he finds it all. That's a good friend.... |

I rewired the 2 outer clearance lights on my burb and now they flash with the front turn signals. Basicly all I did was cut the groun lead at both of the outer lights and ran leads from them to the turn signal wires and spliced them in. So now they flash alternatingly with the front turn signals.

Re: What did you get done 09/09
My buddy was in a motorcycle accident recently and has no transportation, so we cruised in my truck friday and saturday night with a couple ladies. Worked on saturday, busy day as usual.
This sunday morning my parents left for their vacation to San Diego, so I got the house to myself till Friday. So I pretty much sat my happy ass in the recliner all day and watched TV, checked this website occasionally, and now I'm about to go to bed. |

Re: What did you get done 09/09
Got my "new" truck home Sturday morning and, upon thorough inspection found no surprises. I replaced the bad temp gauge with good results and still need to replace the blown headlights, p-side seatbelt assembly and install the E-brake cable (included with the truck). Upon the forum's advice, I bought the '87 w/plow for $2k and I'm confident that I made the right call. The cab floors and supports look great, rockers and doors will need a bit of work come Spring. The ceremonial removal of the bedliner revealed an absolutely MINT bed floor and the fuel-injected 350 purrs like a kitten.
I'll be back later with pics. |
Re: What did you get done 09/09
Kinda finished the drop-top Lincoln, pics here:
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa....php?p=2351540 Also took said vehicle across state to watch the WMU Broncos first game for the season, on the way back had to drive straight through a raging thunderstorm that made even 18-wheelers pull over - let's just say that moments like that make me really appreciate the offroad LT tires I got on the car, I kept flying at 75mph and didn't even get wet :D Truck related nothing accomplished, but then again what needs accomplishing (front end rebuild) is a bit outta my price-range right now. |
Re: What did you get done 09/09
Nothing on the truck as usual!
Went to the Midwest All Truck Nats and mowed.... |
Re: What did you get done 09/09
Pulled the 700R4 back out due to no 4th gear, found the forward sprag was to fault and burned up the 2-4 band and overrun clutches. Replaced and reinstalled - all gears now working! Accidently pinched some wires on re-install though, so had some unexpected re-wiring to do.

Re: What did you get done 09/09
I worked on my '83 on Friday. Wasn't getting fuel so I assumed the fuel pump went bad. Bought a new one, put it in and still nothing. I figured a fuel line was plugged or kinked so I crawled under the truck and messed with that for awhile. All was good. I took the pump back out and had my better half turn the key to see if the rod was moving... it wasn't... The fuel pump lobe on the cam went flat! Next weekend I'm installing an electric pump... I'm not really a fan of those but I'd rather do that than a camshaft r and r...
