What's the lowdown on lowering?
I'm debating on wheather to lower my truck (68). Intrested in any and all opinions. I really don't want to slam it to the ground, just use the 2 1/2" drop spindles. Also, if you drop the front 2 1/2", do you drop the rear the same? I'm not seeing any kits to drop the rear 2 1/2". (I see 4" or 5" )

Re: What's the lowdown on lowering?
In most cases no. It completely depends on the owner and the look they are going for. Most kits will allow for a little rake, a lot of rake or a level look. Rake meaning the front is lower than the rear.
Be sure to look at ECE: www. earlyclassic.com Lots of great parts. Do a search in the suspension section, and you will find a thread with pics of trucks and different suspension layouts. By the way.... welcome to the board! |

I believe that if you use drop spindles you need to convert to disk brakes.

Re: What's the lowdown on lowering?
I will testify that ECE stuff is good. Their tech helpline is outstanding. When I received the wrong part, a phone call to them had the correct part in transit, along with the return label that I would have to have the get them to pick up the wrong part. No questions....just good service.
You will have to decide HOW you want to achieve your drop....springs, spindles or A-frames. Springs will be cheapest. Spindles will let you change from drums to discs. You can combine some parts to get it even lower. ECE will get you down by 3.5 inches with spindles and springs. |

Check out this thread, I just went through some lowering questions... more about what looks right for my liking, but... hope this helps.

Re: What's the lowdown on lowering?
I've got the itch to buy the goods to lower my 69 step but I know I should wait until I get it all assembled to better determine how much drop I want. You just can't tell how much those nearly 40 yr old springs have sagged....
If 2 1/2" spindles get mine sitting like SeeTen and 70SeeTen's trucks then that's probably what I'll be getting. It's enough for me. |
