Anyone have any creative ideas of what to do with the stock radio?? Anyone cut into it and mount a CD player??

You might get more response down in the Truck Audio forum.

Re: Lets see those stereo pics
It seems like there's a write up where a member built one to control an mp3 player. I thought it would be neat if you could use one to control airbag pressure/height.

Re: Lets see those stereo pics
I cut the dash to put a CD player in my truck. Where I cut it out didnt look too good, but with the radio in, it looks fine, you can't even tell I cut the dash.

Some before pics of my bangaround crap system which drove me to madness more than once...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/HPIM3505.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/HPIM3575.jpg Yes, that is a 70's LP record player speaker. 8 watts of power, baby. The head unit was done in 2006 before I could upgrade the rest of the system this year. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/HPIM3597.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/HPIM3609.jpg Radio tuned to a weather frequency using a Kenwood add-on module. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/HPIM5517.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/HPIM5515.jpg Alpine 70 watt RMS component speakers in Q-Logic kick panels. Alpine 90 watt RMS coaxials in the rear cab corners (crew cab). No pics of these or the amp. Stinger hardware wiring, connections and amp install kit used. Go Stinger, always. Amp is an Alpine MRP-F550. Great amp, lots of power. I also have Sirius hooked up. I can deafen myself easily if I so choose. Yes, the carpet is duct taped, because I had to rip it at one point. These pics were taken right after install. |
Re: Lets see those stereo pics
Which Q Logic Kick Panels are those?

Re: Lets see those stereo pics
I don't have the paper with me that came with 'em offhand to give you the exact model number, but I bought them from an eBay listing, this being the model and price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Q-Log...sid=p1638.m118
The model for my truck is a slightly different number if I recall, and if you buy from Q-Logic they're $150+. Being the eBay hawk I am, I took a gamble with the Blazer ones since I figured the cab dimensions would have been identical for those years (my truck is a 1973), and it worked. My component speakers were 6 1/2" though, and wouldn't fit in there properly like the right set of component speakers would. So I took a piece of garden hose, wrapped it around the inside of the enclosure (yet with a hole cut big enough in the speaker blanks for the speakers to squeak through), and screwed it into that. Worked like a charm, provides a nice cushion/absorbing effect, too. So if you go the garden hose route, you could fit the 6 1/2" in those with a little craftwork. Since the new 6 1/2" Q-Logic panels cost around $150, and I'm not sure if they've made the bigger ones for all years and makes yet. |
Re: Lets see those stereo pics
Ah ha, I found an alternate picture in which you can see how the garden hose trick is utilized on the right side speaker.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/HPIM5516.jpg As you can see, since the 6 1/2" wouldn't fit down in there like it's supposed to (because I had bought the wrong component set; should have been smaller), I used the garden hose to sort of lift it up a little bit, so it sits on the outer part of the enclosure ring. |
