goodmark doors don't fit on my blazer

Inot to sure but I always thought that blazer door were just truck doors with the frames cut off. Well I got some goodmark doors and they are shaped differently at the back and they won't close properly whats up with that. Can someone give me some advice

If they are truck doors does anyone know why the goodmark ones seem to be shaped differently. And what I can do about it

da-burb 04-29-2002 10:38 PM

We used reproduction doors on Andy's suburban. Everything fit real nice except for the bolt heads on the strike plate. They actually kept the door from closing. We ended up grinding some of the bolt head off to give it enough clearance. The depression in the door sheet metal must not be deep enough right there.

All other parts went together great. The door latch, door handle, vent window, and the window regulator.

I compared my old doors and my new doors just now and the definately look different

Blazer1970 04-30-2002 06:47 AM

There is no question that the factory used truck doors with the frames cut off. This is clearly shown in the factory assembly manuals, and many people have used salvaged truck doors on their Blazers. Not sure what is wrong with your Goodmark doors, but they probably wouldn't fit a pickup truck right either.

John Fabris 04-30-2002 10:06 AM

I would also have to say that something is wrong with the doors you got. I took a set of 72 truck doors, cut the frame, and put them into my 71 blazer. They fit just fine.

Are you talking about the upper back part of the door, which does not match up with the front of the bedside?

Yes that is exactly where the problem is I might be able to massage it a little but I'm not sure this is the best idea.

grnddwn 04-30-2002 11:19 AM

I just talked to goodmark and they were totally ignorant to me at first. Then when I called back they were a little nicer but not much and really not much help either. You would think that they would want to solve the problem but it seems to be none of thier concern. Thanks to everyone on this page who does want to help.

Desert Rat 04-30-2002 11:44 AM

dude id send them back and tellem to packem up their as$,maybe you got some made on Friday at 4:59 pm?

Dan72cst 04-30-2002 01:47 PM

What exactly is different? Is it hitting the striker plate bolts. Is the blazer top on or off? When I take the top off my blazer, the doors rub on those strikerplate bolts. Goes away when I put the top back on.

You got screwed by goodmark just like I did. The doors do not fit. Also the front bed panel is 1 inch too short. They know they have parts that don't fit but they still sell them! SWB bed sides and cowl induction hoods are OK.

Desert Rat 04-30-2002 05:22 PM

all my chrome sucked i ordered upper and lower grille moldings, werent cut straight and to short.I want the fenders but maybe i shouldnt?

John Fabris 04-30-2002 06:19 PM

Are you talking about where the top of the door is higher then the top of the bedside?

If so, then I suspect that the doors you are replacing have been modified... If not, got access to a digital camera? Would be nice to see what the difference is, as this is the first time on this board (since I have been reading it) that we have heard of something like this...

i used goodmark doors on my truck lined up really well just my 2 cents

67 cst swb 04-30-2002 10:55 PM

I've heard from quite a few truck restoration people, that Goodmark doors are any good YET, they all said Yet! They think that the doors will get better, but as of now don't fit right...everything else Goodmark sells is better than what else is available in the aftermarket, but, They said, there's nothing better than a rust free original, as far as fit....but they Warned me not to buy Goodmark doors. look for good or repairable originals.

What made me mad was their attitude towards me feeling that there might be something wrong with my doors at first they wouldn't ever talk to me about it.

Huck 05-01-2002 07:15 AM

grnddwn--as John Fabris mentioned, the top of the correct door does not line up with the top of the quarterpanels on Blazers or Jimmy's. It's the nature of the beast and not related to Goodmark. If the body sags when the top is off (per Dan72cst), this is an issue of body sag (inner tubs shot?) and (top off)if you attempted to rehang regular truck doors, you would probably have the same problem. If the demensions of the Goodmark doors are not the same as original truck/blazer doors--then I would go directly to Gary J. Jordan at Goodmark. He can be reached at 770-339-8557 ext 702. He was the Goodmark dude at Carlisle spouting about their quality etc. Nothing like originals but, when the nice rust free stuff is too high and you can get acceptable (non-goodmark) aftermarket for $100 fenders, $200 doors, $200 lettered tailgates, in the box --welllll. Good luck---Huck

snow man 05-01-2002 08:25 AM

hope gary j jordan is at indy super chevy this year because i will be looking him up. i will give him my truck if he can get there fenders to fit that they shipped me.seem there supplier can"t get the inner structure in straight which make the fenders not fit.i would think that they would want to correct the problem instead of selling junk they know do not fit.i guess we should realy blame the vendors selling this stuff for not making goodmark do something about there junk.i will say the doors do fit pretty wellbut they could be a little better also. snow man in illinois sorry about the *****en wish all the vendor could get a copy of this message

grnddwn 05-01-2002 04:14 PM

The problem is that compared to my old doors the new one a shaped differently there is a step out just above the door latch that does not exsist on my other two pairs of doors. This is the part that hits the rear pillar. Personally I don't think goodmark cares if it fits as long as they get your money.

How do I post a picture on here?

Huck 05-02-2002 08:23 AM

Strategy--write a note or call Jordan explaining that you have a goodmark quality problem and that unless they take immediate action to resolve, you will encourage everyone on the web boards who have a problem--to write to General Motors explaining how THEIR authorized supplier is handling GM customers with poor quality parts thereby jepardizing GMs reputation. If that doesn't get Goodmark's attention, perhaps we can all get GMs attention!!

Dear Mr. Jordan;

There is no doubt this is the largest format assembled of active 67-72 truck owners. Many of us are watching this debate. I own 5 1/2 of these trucks and many members own more than that. Please keep us informed as to the progress of the quality of these products and your customer service policies. If you make them right we will buy!!

grnddwn 05-02-2002 02:39 PM

I told the one guy I spoke to that I would let everyone on this web know about my problem. His respone to that was ( Okay ). He only wanted to deal with the dealer I bought them from but they couldn't really help me seeing as they are a three hour drive from where I live, and they didn't make the doors they only sell them.
