How does the shift indictor pointer........

1 Attachment(s)
1971 with tilt. Bought the indicator and as silly as it sounds I don't know how to install it? I removed the shift indicator housing, slid the end of the pointer into the angled base on the tilt section, but I don't understand how it fits into the indicator housing? I don't have a photo of my steering column.

The part on the bottom that looks like a tooth clips under the housing to keep it in place as you move the cloumn. Am I making sense?

Re: How does the shift indictor pointer........

Ok, "Now this is for tilt steering"
I found out that the PO before me put the shift indicator on backwards. If you look at it there's 1 side that has a slot or a notch the lenth of the housing or close to. Then put the indicator lens back in. Well that's where the tab with the notch goes thats on your indicator pointer the bottom part. Now the long curve part of your indicator pointer fit's into the housing that moves when you select a gear. You may need to tilt your steering column all the way down to get it to fit in. Slide the floresent color tip in the top part where the letters are for the gears and hook the little tab in the cut out area on your indicator housing, then slid the long angle end into the housing that on the section that moves when you slelect a gear. Set the indicator housing down and tighten the screws.
