Oversized moog ball joint
 

I got a new moog ball joint to replace the crappy cheap one I got from summit. The one from summit fit fine, but when I went to install it, it was the wrong size for the spindle (ECE drop spindle) and the shaft spun. So I go to install the new moog ball joint (K6117T) and it doesn't fit the hole. I can put it in place by hand and then it just falls out.

I was told there are some oversized ones for just this problem...but can't find the parts number...or the one I got is the oversized one. I don't know, but I need a ball joint.


My other option is to pull the control arm off the 3/4 ton parts truck, but I don't know if the control arm is different than the half ton, or if the ball joint is the only difference. Plus I'd have to sandblast and paint the control arm. I'd rather just get a bigger ball joint.

I had the same problem when I dropped my son's 72 burb.I had a machinist make bushings that he pressed on the ball joints,then I pressed them in the control arms.It works great.I told him to save his cnc program in case I [or anyone else] had the same problem.I'm not real sure but I think they'll also work for changing 8 lug to 5 lug disc.

I put new ones on my 1 ton.........They were bigger. Have you tried that size?

Moog actually makes an oversized BJ, just for that purpose. Check with your autoparts store. They are very common.

The 3/4 lower a-arm has a larger balljoint hole.
What are you working on?
1/2 ton or 3/4 ton?
What year ECE spindles did you buy?
Sounds like you got the wrong year balljoint with the incorrect taper.

Lower ball joints should be either 67-70 or 71-87.
Upper ball joints are 67-70, 71-72, or 73-87.
