6 Lug Rotors, Where To Buy?
 

Anyone know where is the best buy for the six lug rotors to fit 71 spindles? The best price that I have found is around $89 a piece.:chevy:

GMC pauls has good prices on them as well as braided hoses etc. if you are going away from stock.

71 supper,
I am converting to disk up front. Found a 71 junkyard dog that had all new upper/lower ball joints, I/O tie rods, calipers and new five lug rotors. I robbed all, plus the spindles and backing plates. I want to keep the six lug being to costly to buy new 5 lug rims at the moment. Will GMC Pauls rotors fit the 71 stock spindles? :chevy:Thanks.:chevy:

Go to your local parts store and ask for 91' C2500 rotors. I've heard they fit. Also make sure your loaded calipers fit over that disc. If not, take them back for a refund!:chevy:

I installed ECE 6 lug rotors on a 71 suspension. I swapped a complete 71 disk suspension to my truck (67), but after being unable to locate a cheap 71/72 5 lug rear end (cheapest I found was $250) I bought the ece rotors. I got mine cheap from a board member who swapped from 6 lug to 5.

I've read so many "this new truck rotor should work" threads but have yet to see a single definitive post that says "YES! I installed XXX rotors on my truck with XXX year parts and everything bolted on!"

I'd love to hear from someone who's actually done it?

Yes the rotos from GMC Pauls fit onto 71 spindles with no problem, I used a 71 spindle on a 69 that I am building to sell. The 71-72 calipers fit as well, only problem that I had (not really major) was 68-70 center link (already had painted and ready) does not work with 71-72 tie rods so be sure you get the center link from a 71-72. As far as the new model light duty 3/4 ton 92 six lug rotors- yes the are similar, no they do not work correctly. The bearings, races and seals are exactly the same as our trucks, nfortunately when installed they have about 1/8th positive offset at the caliper different from ours. The only way to get the caliper to fit would be to use organic pads and grind them down until the caliper slides onto the rotor. I for one don't like that idea, but the cost for those rotors is cheap, $40 each ,so it may be tempting. I now that there proposals that the difference could be made up by using 92 calipers- they WILL NOT fit. Buy from Pauls or ECE andbe done this is not something to monkey with- I tried based off of info I found here and also had access to parts books and employee discounts when I attempted this. The later rotors DO NOT FIT AS THEY SHOULD with what our trucks have in place stock. Good luck.

Excuse the minor hijack, but, do you know if those rotors would work on 73/87 spindles?

As far as I know the 73-87 spindles are the same as the ones found on our trucks- unless it is a heavy 1/2 ton then there is some difference in rotors and calipers

Thanks for the info. I do know you have to use the 71 outer tie rods to mount to the spindles. Did not know that the inner rods would not mount to the 67 center link, did not rob it at the time, guess have to go back to the bone yard in the snow and muck now. Is it possible to use inner tie rods for a 67/68 to mount to the center link? I think the rotors from GMC Pauls are around $85 + shipping. This looks like the best route to go unless I have a machine shop fill and redrill the 5 lug to a 6 lug. Dose GMC Pauls rotors come with new bearings and races?:chevy:

The rotors have races installed. The 67-68 inner tie rods can be used but it requires a special sleeve to adapt the threads, there is a difference. I found it best to get all of the same stuff (year) so when the truck sold the new owner would not have to search forever to get the stuff to fit. I know it sounds crazy but it makes more sense fo me to do it this way.

The best way is to use all of the 71-72 stuff. Centerlink, tie-rods, hoses, hard lines, ball joints etc. If you use the 67-70 centerlink and inner tie rods.You need to order special adjusting sleeves and 71-72 outer tie rods. I just ordered sleeves from CPP. You will have to do some adapting to make your 71-72 hoses work.

I have seen a few places even carrying conversion rotors with 6 lug for either stock or dropped spindles,McGaughys,Early Classic,Performance Online and others have numerous options.........check them out.
