Re: Adding a tilt
You should have no problem using your old switch. I just did this last year.

Re: Adding a tilt
its all direct bolt in replacement the ignition switch ( key ) and the column should swap in no problems

Re: Adding a tilt
do you mean the key switch, or the ingniton switch down the column a ways, the one on the column is no prob. the key switch is a bit more, thats where I got held up on mine, you have to have special tools to release the spring clip and then their is a lot going on in the column. I found some one to do it for 75 bucks and I put my old one back in till I have time to get the tilt to them, good luck bob

Re: Adding a tilt
Mr79: Ign lock cyl and ign switch are two different parts. Changing the switch is no problem, especially with the colunm out, unless you drop the high beam rod out of the pocket it rides in under the signal light switch. Changing the lock cyl is an entirely different critter. You do need special tools (lock plate compressor and wheel puller) This isn't something a novice should attempt. On colunms like this (round colunms, not the square ones) there are 4 reverse head torqs screws at the bottom that often loosen up and you may not find out they are loose until you have swaped out the colunms due to spring pressure within the tilt mechanism holding it tight until you give it a real good pull. If this is the case try to find someone locally to fix it properly. If you can't find anyone in FL to do it for you, ship it up here and I'll fix it for you and ship it back with a new lock and keys. I have over the years accumulated enough parts to build a whole colunm from scratch. jim

Dang.....Are they supplying the vaseline ? That's all of a 15/20 minute job with the proper tools ! A lot of auto parts stores offer the puller and lock plate tools for loan free of charge. |
