Hey guys been a while. I did a search and could not find anything that I understood. I have a 70 chevy sb and wanted to know if there was newer rear w/ posi that I can use. Thanks, Andy Mc

Re: what rear end
What do you mean by "newer”? Later model? if so I would have to ask why? These rear ends come in Posi and can be built good and strong. You can go to a F@rd 9" or anything as far as that goes if you want to spend some $$. I had currie build me a F@rd 9" but that’s what I wanted. Unless your planning BIG HP the stock rear-end done up right should be fine.

Re: what rear end
Hey Andy,What rear do you have,a 12-bolt w/coil springs?If so,what gears?
Newer rears will all be leaf spring. You can change spring mounts. One shock mount needs moved on`73-up.But,you could use any 12-bolt. You can change the gear ratio, rebuild, install a posi, install disc brakes,or anything you want with the rear you have. Got more info? |
Re: what rear end
Thanks for the info guys.I sold my original coil spring rear, before I thought what else I was going to use.Don't expect to have but about 375-400 HP.Just wondering what newer (lim-slip or posi) would bolt up easy without a lot of work or bucks. Andy Mc

Re: what rear end
If you have to buy wheels get you a 8.8 from a explorer or have the axles redrilled to 5on5

Re: what rear end
why not go with a 12 bolt from a 67 - 72? It'll bolt right in, and 400 horse is nothing unless you install tires that'll bite real hard.
