Truck wont start

Its been 2 months since I started it and today when I went out to start it nothing. I checked the battery and had 12.20 volts. Put the meter on the batter and when I turned it over it didnt move. Ignition switch was replaced last time I started it. The under dash harness is new as well as the engine harness. Distributor is hei and I checked that and its good. The harness I have from M&H has the hei wire running into the engine harness. What else should I check?

Thanks

Is it getting fuel to the carb?

Grounds. Anywhere you should have one, and everywhere they are supposed to be. Make sure they are all "good" and clean. Rust (aka corrosion) is an insulator, if it is trapped between what should be grounded and that which is the ground.

I got a strap on each valve cover, battery is grounded to the block, strap to the rad support to frame, and there is another one out back.

I doubt the battery is the problem but a fully charged battery should read 13.3 volts or 2.2 per cell.I agree with the grounds and would also check the solenoid.

Did you try shaking the shifter... pulling it all the way up into park?

Ooops forgot to out that part into the first post. The column is not installed. Also I dont have a neutral safety switch installed either. But now that you mention it Andy its acting like it would act if you had it out of gear with a neutral safety switch install. Also another thing I noticed I turned my heater on and when I turn my key like I am going to start it the heater does not come on. Is there a wire I could put my meter on to see if I am getting power with the ignition on?

Let me clarify something here. When I say it wont start I mean it wont turn over. I reread the post and noticed that I was not very clear. Its been that kind of day :(

Try pulling the cables and cleaning them until shiny lead on posts and cables. Then throw a charger on it for a minimum of 6 amps 2 hrs or 2 amps 4 hrs, check voltage. regardless of voltage amps is what starts your engine. You can trickel 12 volts through a poor connection, and it wont start your engine.

Battery is on a charger now. After I unhooked it I cleaned the posts and the cables themselves.

One more thing to add. In the cab all the lights work. Dome light, head lights, parking lights etc.

if there is no column, then you need to put a jumper wire in the 2 purple wires that plug into the neutral safety switch

Would hooking up the neutral safety switch work? I have it off of the column. :metal:

That would probably work if it's in the proper position . I would just jumper the purple wires . Did your truck start before with all of this stuff removed??

Re: Truck wont start

yeah, you can plug it in and move the tab all the way to the left (as the switch is mounted in the truck)
Double check to make sure the truck is in park if there is any question at all in your mind.

Yeah Andy that would not be good if it lurched forward now would it :) That has been checked and it is in park.
Thanks

Ok I stopped what I was doing to say Longhorn man nailed it. The neutral safety switch was the problem. I took the one off of my column and plugged it in and it worked. It now turns over. Now to get it running :)
