Heater upgrades?

I have a standard non a/c truck that I would like to make the heater work a little better is there any tricks out there to do? Saw a switch at GMC Pauls for fan speed? Mine seems to have poor air flow? Is that normal? I am use to my 98 Ford work van that the heater kicks @$$ in!

I bought my 71 from my brother in law. He said he put in a heater core from a ford. The largest one that would fit. Up here in the north, I can ride around in my truck in a t shirt when its -40 outside! It's great

Wish I knew what core that was! I would also like to increase air flow! I should pull my motor and see what the blower wheel looks like?

Yea, check the squirl cage on the fan. Mine was cracked and broken. It looked like the mice were chewing on it. Also i had leaves in the heater box that were obstructing the flow and cracked and broken defroster ducts. I got good heat now. It will make your feet sweat! Also put anti-seize on your wire going into the control cable so you dont break off those heater control leavers. They always break off.

Heres a good tip on this subject...the heater blower moter from an older caddy is a direct bolt in, and blows a little harder.

Yeah, typical in these trucks, check your heater box, might be loaded with trash. Similar story, mouse nest in mine, chewed up 3 or 4 fan blades. Replaced heater core (leaking), installed new fan, heater works great. Just don't want to 'test it' at 40 below zero!

I forgot to mention that I have a 205 degree thermostat. Boy does it make a difference!!
