Window Glass Glue?

Just put new regulators in the doors and as I was lowering the passenger side, I noted that the window wasn't coming down. Got the door panel off and discovered that the glass had separted from the metal track at the bottom! :dohh: I presume I'll need to "glue" that back in. Would I use silicone for that?

Thanks.

I think back in the day they used a rubber/sticky type paper. You can see it on your vent windows. Silicone should work, when they put mine in they used urathane like for installing windshilds.

Its a urethane glue. Silicone usually doesn't work.but some cars have it on the tracks. I would go to a glass shop and see if they will sell you a tube We get the stuff but it comes in a black tube with no brand name. I will try and find out where we get it. Don't waste your time with stuff you think might work. Get the real stuff made for the tracks. 3M , norton and other companies sell it.

From the factory they actually used glass setting tape. It is difficult to use. You can still buy it from some glass companies. but the urethane is good stuff. If it's applied properly it will stick.

YOu can get the urethane at Auto Zone, Advance Auto, O'rielly's.It's the same stuff you use to glue in windshields. Any decent supply store should have it. It's usually on the bottom shelve where they carry the gasket silicone "BLUE GLUE" as I call it. I actually went to Advance Friday for some. Just be careful because that stuff will make a mess real quick and isn't forgiving on what it gets on.
It looks like a tube of caulk, in a white metal tube(ususaly) made by
3M. If I had the part # I'd give it to you. It was 14.99 a tube here. But good stuff once it has set.

Re: Window Glass Glue?

We install glass and we won't use the glue made for window sealing because its not the same glue for the window brackets. The stuff we use sets up in 1/2 hr and the car can be delivered. We have used the window sealer and then the customer brings the car back cause it pulled out. We lose money. We buy the real stuff now.
