Disk brake shields question ?
Doing the front disk brakes on our 1971 C20, one of the tin shields is kind of mangled, are these really needed on there, can we safely run without or is there a downside ?

Just a little something I learned when I was shopping around for a replacement for my truck: The aftermarket shields usually have a beveled outer edge, while the originals have a sharp edge as you can see in the pics. The aftermarkerts below are from Early Classic. They run about $22 each. Mine was not that banged up, so I chose to go with the the hammer and block method. Just my .02 cents. ;) MisterE

And I apologize to Green Machine. You were asking a legitimate question, sometimes my (and others apparently ;)) love of sarcasm gets in the way! As others have said, while the shields are not absolutely necessary, they do serve a purpose. |
