Re: rear axle bearings
You might want to check the Eastwood catalog if you're sure you want to tackle this job. You need a pretty stout dent puller with a special attachment on the end to remove the wheel bearings on the rear diff. A lightweight puller won't cut it. I did this job with my rear disk brake conversion a few years ago.

Re: rear axle bearings
Check with your auto parts store, when I worked at Oreilly Auto, we sold a complete rear end rebuild kit. It had all four bearings, all three seals, crush washer, gear marking compound. They should also be able to rent you the correct puller.

Re: rear axle bearings
This project, will not need to remove the carrier so you don't have to reset the rear end gears. I believe that we did everything from the outer ends, on my 91 DD, with ONE exception---removing the "C" clips. Do you have a posi rear end---do you want to consider one of the POWER TRAX units at this time. It installs without removing the carrier and gives you a good posi result in the end.

Re: rear axle bearings
The axle tube bearings can be removed without removing the carrier, but the carrier bearings will require the carrier to be removed. Same for pinion bearings.
