Depends on what you are doing. If you need to recover either set, the utility buckets do not have the upolstery repopped whereas the smaller plastic back buckets do have the recover materials ready made, look in LMC or Classic industries. You can get the utilities covered but it will be more of a job someone will have to custom.

Also, you can't fit the metal backs from utility buckets on the standard buckets. The shapes are different.

Utilities are kind of squared off, and are more comfortable for bigger guys. The others are more "sporty"

I have utilities, but I'd rather have the other.

so i am getting mostly that the utilitys are the less desireable of the two. good to know. looks like i am going to go with the original buckets then instead thanks. if anyone else has an opinion against it then would love to hear it

Ok,they are actually bench seats sawed in half with the middle tossed out.My bad.

I think the utility whatchamacallits are alot like some of the 1st GM car buckets as far as shape goes.Just flat and square.I have a set and if I ever use them they will be used in a custom application.I mean,I`d have an upholsterer give a shape to the seating surfaces. They could be made to be more comfortable than their shapelier sisters with some custom foam work. There`s just no bolster to them. They seem to have a utility feel to them,ya think? When I was younger I never gave comfort a thought.I do now or when I don`t I sure feel it.

It`s funny, when upholstery was first being reproduced for these trucks 15 or more years ago I was wanting covers for a Blazer.I was asking an "expert" dealer about getting them for a`72 with the basic upholstery.I wanted the CST covers and was asking if they`d work.I knew those were all that was offered but wasn`t sure if there were differences in the seat itself. He told me,"We only deal in the upscale seats".I told him these weren`t the utility seats, just the non-CST..."Nope!" was all he`d say.I never covered those seats thinking I`d have to get custom-made.
